India aims to become one trillion dollar tourism economy by 2047

  • The Government of India has set the vision to make India a one trillion dollar tourism economy by the year 2047, which marks India’s 100th year of Independence.
  • In line with this, India is observing ‘Visit India Year 2023′ in order to give a boost to the uniqueness of Indian tourism and make India a seamless , modern, and smart tourism destination.
  • The ‘Visit India Year 2023’ is a unique, collective movement that invites the world to explore India in 2023, the historical year of India’s G20 presidency.
  • The year 2023 also marks the grand celebrations of 75 years of Indian Independence – India@75 Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Haryana has highest unemployment rate while Uttarakhand and Chandigarh have lowest in March 2023: CMIE Report

  • The latest data from the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) reveals that in March 2023, the unemployment rate in India rose to a three-month high to 7.8 percent.

  • The unemployment rate in the country in December 2022 was 8.30 percent.
  • This declined in January 2023 to 7.14 percent.
  • However in February, the rate increased to 7.45 percent
  • Area-wise data for the unemployment rate in March 2023
    • Urban areas – 8.4 percent
    • Rural areas – 7.5 percent
  • State-wise data for the unemployment rate in March 2023
    • Highest – Haryana (26.8 percent)
      • It was followed by Rajasthan (26.4 percent), Jammu and Kashmir (23.1 percent), Sikkim (20.7 percent), Bihar (17.6 percent) and Jharkhand (17.5 percent).
    • Lowest – Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh at 0.8 percent each.
      • It was followed by Puducherry (1.5 percent), Gujarat (1.8 percent), Karnataka (2.3 percent) and Meghalaya and Odisha (2.6 percent each).

PM Modi participates in Combined Commanders’ Conference in Bhopal

  • The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi attended the Combined Commanders’ Conference in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh on April 01, 2023.
  • The theme of the three-day conference of Military Commanders was ‘Ready, Resurgent, Relevant’.
  • The commanders from the three armed forces and senior officers from the Ministry of Defence participated in the conference.
  • Deliberations on issues related to national security, including jointness and theaterisation in the Armed Forces were held in the conference.

Russia Assumes Presidency of UNSC for April 2023

  • Russia has taken over the Presidency of the UN Security Council (UNSC) on April 01, 2023. It will be presided by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
  • It must be informed that each of the 15 members of the UNSC takes up the presidency for a month, on a rotating basis.
  • Previously, Russia took over the Presidency in February 2022. During that time, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
  • The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations (UN) and is responsible for maintaining international peace and security.
  • UNSC has 15 member countries. Among them, 5 are permanent while other 10 are non-permanent members.
  • The five permanent members of UNSC are China, France, Russia, United Kingdom and United States.
  • The non-permanent members are Albania, Brazil, Ecuador, Gabon, Ghana, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, Switzerland, and United Arab Emirates.

ISRO successfully achieves Reusable Launch Vehicle Autonomous Landing Mission (RLV LEX)

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully conducted the Reusable Launch Vehicle Autonomous Landing Mission (RLV LEX) on April 02, 2023.
  • The test was conducted at the Aeronautical Test Range (ATR), Chitradurga, in Karnataka.
  • Under this mission, a winged body was carried to an altitude of 4.5 km by a helicopter and released for carrying out an autonomous landing of a space vehicle on a runway.
  • It was the first-of-its-kind mission in the world.

Vice Admiral Sanjay Jasjit Singh takes charge as Vice Chief of Naval Staff 

  • Vice Admiral Sanjay Jasjit Singh took over as the new Vice Chief of Naval Staff on April 02, 2023.
  • He succeeds Vice Admiral Satishkumar Namdeo Ghormade who superannuated on April 01, 2023 after more than 39 years of service to the Indian Navy.
  • Prior to this, Vice Admiral Sanjay Jasjit Singh held charge of Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff.

Max Verstappen wins 2023 Australian Grand Prix

  • Formula One (F1) World Champion Max Verstappen [Red Bull – Netherlands] has won the 2023 Australian Grand Prix, held on April 02, 2023.
  • This was his second win of the season. Three races have been held so far in 2023.
  • Lewis Hamilton [Mercedes – Great Britain] came second. 
  • Fernando Alonso [Aston Martin Aramco – Spain] came third.

World Autism Awareness Day 2023: 02 April

  • The World Autism Awareness Day is observed on 02 April every year, to raise awareness about people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) throughout the world.
  • Theme 2023:Transformation: Toward a Neuro-Inclusive World for All‘.
  • It was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 18 December 2007.
  • World Autism Day is one of only seven official health-specific UN Days.

International Children’s Book Day 2023: 02 April

  • The International Children’s Book Day (ICBD) is organised annually on 2nd April since 1967, by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY).
  • IBBY is an international non-profit organization, to inspire a love of reading and to call attention to children’s books.
  • Each year a different National Section of IBBY has the opportunity to be the international sponsor of ICBD and decide upon a theme.
  • IBBY Greece is the sponsor for International Children’s Book Day 2023.
  • Theme 2023: ‘I am a book, read me’.

Legendary Indian Test Cricketer Salim Durani passes away at 88

  • Former India all-rounder cricket player Salim Durani has passed away due to age-related ailments on April 2, 2023. He was 88.
  • He is the only Indian Test cricketer to be born in Afghanistan.
  • Salim represented India in Test and First-Class cricket.
  • He had played in 29 Test matches for India from 1960 to 1973, scoring 1202 runs.
  • He played for Gujarat, Rajasthan and Saurashtra in first-class cricket.
