SC increases VVPAT count to 5 EVMs per Assembly constituency from 1 in LS polls
- The Supreme Court has ordered the Election Commission to increase the VVPAT count of one randomly selected electronic voting machine per Assembly constituency to five in the Lok Sabha polls.
- This has been done to ensure the “greatest degree of accuracy and satisfaction” in the electoral process.
Extra: Voter-verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) or verifiable paper record (VPR) is a method of providing feedback to voters using a ballotless voting system. A VVPAT is intended as an independent verification system for voting machines designed to allow voters to verify that their vote was cast correctly, to detect possible election fraud or malfunction.
