P K Sinha Given 3 Months Extension as Cabinet Secretary
The Government of India has further given three-month extension to Cabinet Secretary Pradeep Kumar Sinha, whose four year tenure will be completed on June 12, 2019.
He was appointed as Cabinet Secretary in June 2015 with extensions in 2017 and 2018. Sinha can now serve in the post till September 12.
With this, he becomes the longest-serving cabinet secretary in the country’s history.
As per existing rules, a Cabinet Secretary’s total term with extensions could not go beyond four years.
However, government has amended the existing All India Services (Death-Cum-Retirement-Benefits) Rules, 1958, for appointment of Cabinet Secretary, stating that the Central Government may, if it considers necessary in public interest to do so, give an extension in service for a further period, not exceeding three months, beyond the period of four years to the Cabinet Secretary.
