NBA Creates Social Justice Champion Award, named after legendary Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
- The National Basketball Association (NBA) has created a new award, named “Kareem Abdul-JabbarSocial Justice Champion Award”.
- The award has been named in honor of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the all-time leading scorer of league and a noted civil rights activist.
- The award will recognise one NBA player for his ongoing pursuit in the fight for social justice and racial equality, respect and inclusion.
- Each of the 30 NBA team will nominate one player, from which five finalists will be selected and ultimately one winner.
- The winner will get $100,000 from the league to donate to an organization of his choosing. Four additional finalists will receive $25,000.
