Ministry of Education launches NIPUN Bharat Programme

  • Union Minister for Education, Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has launched NIPUN Bharat programme.
  • Objective: The aim of NIPUN programme is that that every child in India gets foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) by the end of Grade 3, by 2026-27. (and not later than Grade V)
  • Full Form: NIPUN stands for National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy and has been launched under the aegis of the centrally sponsored scheme of Samagra Shiksha.
  • Implementing Agency: The Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education (MoE) will be the implementing agency at the national level for the scheme.
  • NISHTHA: To help this scheme achieve its objective, teachers will play an important role. In view of the challenges of in-service teacher training across the different stages of school education, NCERT has designed an innovative integrated programme of teacher training, now, popularly known as NISHTHA (National Initiative for School Heads‟ and Teachers‟ Holistic Advancement).
