Ministry of Rural Development inks MoU with Flipkart to enhance rural livelihoods 
  • The e-commerce marketplace Flipkart has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) to support the ambitious Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM) program.
  • The MoU will help to empower local businesses and self-help groups (SHGs) by bringing them on the e-commerce platform to sell their products. SHGs led by women would be given special focus.
  • The MoU is a part of Flipkart’s Samarth programme which aims to support skilled craftsmen, weavers and artisans of under-served community by helping them to sell online through Flipkart marketplace.
  • Under the programme, e-commerce knowledge and training around onboarding, cataloging, marketing, account management, business insights, and warehousing are also imparted.

  • The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved the accquisition of 100% shareholding in Exide Life Insurance Company Limited by HDFC Life Insurance Company.
  • The acquisition has been approved under Section 31(1) of the Competition Act, 2002.
  • After the acquisition Exide Life will become wholly owned subsidiary of HDFC Life.
  • It is proposed to merge Exide Life with HDFC Life.

Indian Navy stealth frigate Tushil launched in Kaliningrad, Russia
  • The seventh Indian Navy frigate of the P1135.6 class was launched at the Yantar Shipyard at Kaliningrad in Russia on October 28, 2021.
  • The ship has been formally named as Tushil, a Sanskrit word which means protector shield.
  • The ship has been developed under the Inter-Governmental Agreement (IGA) between India and Russia in 2016 for the construction of four additional P1135.6 class ships for Indian Navy.
  • Out of the four ships, two ships of Project 1135.6 ships were to be constructed in Russia and two ships in India at M/s Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL).
  • Tushil will be commissioned into the Indian Navy in mid-2023 followed by its sister ship by the end of 2023.
  • The Project 1135.6 class is also called Talwar class and the Talwar class frigates are built by Russia for Indian Navy.
