- Dr. K Sivan, Chairman of ISRO, inaugurated Human Space Flight Centre (HSFC) on January 30, 2019 at ISRO Headquarter campus in Bengaluru.
- HSFC will be responsible for implementation of GAGANYAAN Project. Dr. S Unnikrishnan Nair is the founder Director of HSFC and Shri R Hutton is the Project Director of GAGANYAAN project.
- The HSFC will conduct end-to-end mission planning, development of Engineering systems for crew survival in space, crew selection & training and also pursue activities for sustained human space flight missions.
- The ISRO aims to send humans to space by December 2021 through its Gaganyaan mission.
