International Mountain Day 2021 celebrated on December 11

Every year the International Mountain Day (IMD) is observed on December 11.
Theme for 2021 IMD is ‘Sustainable mountain tourism’.
United Nations had declared 2002 as the UN International Year of Mountains.
The International Day was celebrated for the first time in 2003.
The day aims to encourage sustainable development in mountains; to create awareness about the importance of mountains to life; to highlight the opportunities and constraints in mountain development; and to build alliances that will bring positive change to mountain peoples and environments around the world.
