International Day of Forests: 21 March

  • The International Day of Forests (also known as World Forestry Day) is celebrated every year on March 21.
  • Purpose: to celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests, and trees outside forests, for the benefit of current and future generations as well as to increase the public awareness among communities about the values, significance and contributions of the forests to balance the life cycle on the earth.
  • The theme for International Day of Forests 2020 is “Forest restoration: a path to recovery and well-being”.
  • This day was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on November 28, 2012.
