• The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is observed every year on 17 October throughout the world.
• The day aims to raise awareness of the need to eradicate poverty and destitution around the world, particularly in developing countries.

• The first International Day for the Eradication of Poverty was held in Paris, France in 1987.
• It was officially recognized by UN General Assembly in December 1992.
