India’s ‘largest piggery mission’ launched in Meghalaya
- The Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Kailash Choudhury, launched India’s largest piggery mission in Meghalaya on 10 September 2020.
- The project is a step towards Aatma Nirbhar (self-reliant) and would make the state self-sufficient in pork production, and thus attain self-sufficiency in food and nutrition security as well as augment farmer income
- The overall cost of the project is estimated at Rs. 209 crore.
- It will be funded by the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC).
