Indian Contingent Flag-bearers announced for Tokyo Olympics Games
- The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has announced the names of the flag bearers for the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games, beginning July 23, 2021.
- The six-time world boxing champion MC Mary Kom, and men’s hockey team skipper, Manpreet Singh, have been named as flag-bearers for the Indian contingent at the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics on July 23, 2021.
- Meanwhile, World Championships silver medallist wrestler Bajrang Punia will be the flag-bearer at the closing ceremony on August 8, 2021.
- This is for the first time that India will have two flag-bearers, one male and one female, at Olympics Games, to ensure “gender parity”.
- Around 126 athletes are taking part in the Tokyo Olympics Games, comprising 56 percent male and 44 percent female athletes.
