India Successfully Conductes Anti-Satellite Missile Test ‘Mission Shakti’
- On March 27, 2019, India successfully conducted an Anti-Satellite (A-SAT) missile test, code named as ‘Mission Shakti’, from Dr A P J Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha.
- Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) carried out the testing of Ballistic Missile, Defence Interceptor Missile by shooting down a satellite parked at low earth orbit at a distance of 300 kilometres from the earth.
- The state-of-the-art missile technology destroyed the live mini satellite in space within three minutes.
- With this achievement, India has now become the only fourth nation after US, Russia and China to have such capability.
