India Ranks 79th in WJP Rule of Law Index 2021; Denmark tops

  • India has been ranked at 79th spot among 139 countries in the World Justice Project (WJP) Rule of Law Index 2021, the world’s leading source for original and independent data on the rule of law.
  • Denmark has topped the index, followed by Norway and Finland.
  • Venezuela, RB is the least ranked country at 139th spot.
  • The index is prepared by Washington DC based World Justice Project to measure how the rule of law is experienced and perceived across the world by general public, legal practitioners and experts, in practical and everyday situations.
  • The WJP Rule of Law Index 2021 ranks 139 countries and jurisdictions based on eight factors:
    1. Constraints on Government Powers,
    2. Absence of Corruption,
    3. Open Government,
    4. Fundamental Rights,
    5. Order and Security,
    6. Regulatory Enforcement,
    7. Civil Justice
    8. Criminal Justice
  • Each country is given a score on a scale ranging from 0 to 1, where 1 indicates the strongest adherence to the rule of law while o denotes least adherence.
