India Ranks 112 in WEF’s Global Gender Gap Report 2020; Iceland Tops

  • Geneva-based World Economic Forum (WEF) released its annual Global Gender Gap Report 2020 on December 17, 2019
  • India has been ranked 112th among 153 countries in terms of gender gap in the Global Gender Gap Index, down from 108th position last year, amid widening disparity in terms of women’s health and survival and economic participation.
  • The WEF published its first gender gap report in 2006 when India was ranked at 98th place.
  • Iceland has topped the index as the world’s most gender-neutral country.
  • Norway, Finland, Sweden, Nicaragua, New Zealand, Ireland, Spain, Rwanda and Germany are the top 10 countries in the list respectively.
  • Yemen at 153 is the worst ranked country, while Iraq is 152nd and Pakistan 151st.
