India inks MoU with Nepal to reconstruct 117 heritage & health projects damaged during 2015 earthquake in Himalayan country
- India and Nepal have signed a Memorandum of Undertaking (MoU) for the reconstruction of 14 cultural heritage projects and 103 health sector projects in Nepal, which got damaged during the 2015 earthquake.
- The MoU was signed between officials from Indian Embassy in Nepal and Central Level Project Implementation Unit-CLPIU (Building) of the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) of Nepal.
- These projects, which are located in various districts of Nepal, will be reconstructed at a cost of NRs (Nepalese Rupees) 420 crores.
- CLPIU (Building) of NRA, Nepal is the implementing agency for both health and cultural heritage sector projects.
- The Government of India has allocated assistance of USD 250 million under post-earthquake reconstruction package to Nepal, which includes US $50 million each for cultural heritage, education, and health sector, and USD 100 million for the Housing sector.
