India Extends USD 500,000 Assistance to the Gambia

  • President Ram Nath Kovind has announced an assistance of USD 500,000 to Gambia to support skill development and cottage industry projects in the West African country.
  • Kovind was in Banjul during his second leg visit to three West African nations, where he held delegation-level talks with his Gambian counterpart President Adama Barrow.
  • He is the first Indian President to make a state visit to the Gambia.
  • The two nations signed Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the field of Traditional Systems of Medicine and Homeopathy.
  • India also received an instrument of ratification of the International Solar Alliance Framework Agreement from Gambia which will open up new opportunities of collaboration between the two countries on solar energy and help in combating climate change.
