IMF Slashes India’s GDP to 4.8% in FY20; Global Growth Predicted at 2.9% in 2019

  • The International Monetary Fund (IMF) released the World Economic Outlook (WEO) update on 20 January 2020.
  • In its latest update, IMF has lowered India’s GDP growth rate to 4.8 percent for the current fiscal from 6.1 percent it projected in October World Economic Outlook (WEO).

  • 2019-20: 4.8%
  • 2020-21: 5.8%
  • 2021-22: 6.5%

Global Growth as per IMF

  • The Global growth is also slashed by 0.1 percentage point to 2.9 percent in 2019 compared with those in the October World Economic Outlook (WEO).
    • 2019- 2.9% (-0.1%)
    • 2020- 3.3% (-0.1%)
    • 2021- 3.4% (-0.2%)
