- Gujarat has become the first state to implement new provision of 10 percent reservations in government jobs and higher education for the economically weaker sections in the general category.
- The newly introduced reservation provision will be effective from January 14, 2019 across the state.
- The decision will be implemented in all ongoing recruitment processes including those where only an Advertisement has been published but examination is yet to be held.
- However, benefits of the fresh quota will not be applicable in case where the process had already begun before January 14, 2019, like written, oral, computer proficiency or preliminary tests.
- The Constitution (124 Amendment) Bill, 2019 allows this quota after amendment of Article 15 and 16.
