General Tod D.Wolters Sworn in as NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe

  • The United States Air Force General Tod D.Wolters has been sworn in as Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), the top military officer of the 29-nation NATO military alliance.
  • He succeeds General Curtis M.Scaparrotti (US Army) as NATO’s 19th SACEUR for a term likely to run two to three years.
  • General Tod D.Wolters will also serve as commander of U.S. forces in Europe.

  • SACEUR is the second-highest military position within NATO only after the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee. It is based at SHAPE in Casteau, Belgium.
  • The Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) is the commander of the Allied Command Operations (ACO) of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and head of ACO’s headquarters which is Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE).
  • The NATO post of SACEUR is always held by an U.S. military officer who is also holds the position of Commander of United States European Command.
