Former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan Named in Five-Member Economic Advisory Council Set up by Tamil Nadu Government

  • In Tamil Nadu, the state government has constituted five-member Economic Advisory Council to the Chief Minister.
  • The Council comprise of following members:
    1. Prof. Raghuram Rajan – former Reserve Bank of India Governor
    2. Prof. Esther Duflo – 2019 Nobel Prize-winning French–American economist, and professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
    3. Dr. Arvind Subramanian – former Chief Economic Advisor
    4. Prof. Jean Dreze – welfare economist and social scientist
    5. Dr. S Narayan – former Union Finance Secretary and former Economic Advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • Role of the Council
    • The council will provide general guidance to state Chief Minister MK Stalin in managing the state’s economic and social policies, social justice and human development-related issues, and in matters related to equal opportunities for women and well-being of underprivileged groups.
    • Apart from this, the council will make suggestions to boost growth, employment and productivity across all sectors.
