Telangana launched DEET application for employment ecosystem in the State

  • Telangana government has launched application DEET (Digital Employment Exchange of Telangana) to improve the employment ecosystem in the State.
  • DEET is a digital database of 45,000 job vacancies in several companies and organisations.
  • It will allow free interaction between job seekers and job providers on the platform that is powered by AI and ML technologies.

7th Community Radio Sammelan Begins in New Delhi

  • The 7th edition of the Community Radio Sammelan has been organised at Dr. BR Ambedkar Bhawan, New Delhi from 27th to 29th August, 2019.
  • The Sammelan has been organized by Ministry of Information & Broadcasting.
  • The theme of the Sammelan is ‘Community Radio for SDGs’.
  • The representatives of all operational Community Radio Stations will participate and discuss experiences and possibilities of programming for better public awareness on the Sustainable Development Goals.

Fourth Edition of IoT India Congress Concludes in Bengaluru

  • The 4th edition of IoT (Internet of Things) India Congress 2019 was held in Bangalore on August 22-23, 2019.
  • The two day event was organised by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
  • The IoT India Congress is the platform of platforms for the Internet of Things and is India’s largest confluence of digital-technology stakeholders.
  • The theme for the event was ‘Mainstreaming the Internet of Things’. 
  • The session focussed on ten tracks, namely: Energy, Healthcare, Defence, Standards and Regulatory, Retail, Digital Communication, Skills and Development, Agriculture, Manufacturing and Smart Cities. 

Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi to be Renamed as Arun Jaitley Stadium

  • The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has decided to rename the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium as the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
  • The renaming ceremony will take place on September 12 where a stand of the ground will also be renamed after India skipper Virat Kohli.
  • Jaitley had served as one of the five vice-presidents of the BCCI and one of the longest-serving presidents of the Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) between 1999-2013.

India’s GDP growth rate pegged at 6.9%: FICCI Survey

  • Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) has released the latest edition of Economic Outlook Survey.
  • As per the report, the annual median GDP growth rate for India in 2019-20 (FY20) is predicted at 6.9%.

SIDBI Partners Incuspaze to Launch First Ever Co-working Space for MSMEs and Startups 

  • The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) has partnered with Incuspaze Solutions Private Limited (Incuspaze) to open a first-of-its-kind coworking space named @Workspaze, exclusively designed for MSMEs and startups in New Delhi to enhance the business ecosystem for MSMEs and startups.
  • SIDBI will start an MSME accelerator programme for the MSMEs and startups, who will set up their offices in @Workspaze.
  • The initiative is aimed to support the entrepreneurs who face several challenges at the initial stage of their entrepreneurship journey so that they have a smooth ride in their venture.
  • The fully furnished office space is equipped with training and conference room, fast-speed internet, reception, refreshment, recreational area, housekeeping facilities etc.

In a first, HDFC Bank, MasterCard launch Millennia cards aimed at ‘Young India’

  • HDFC Bank, MasterCard have launched Millennia Cards. This is India’s first range of cards catering exclusively to the lifestyles and aspirations of the millennials. The cards are in four variants including both debit and credit card.
  • Millennials were those born between 1982 and 2000 and represents the demographic of the first generation of people reaching adulthood in the early 21st century.
  • After HDFC, Freecharge has also launched Digital Credit Card for millennials in partnership with Axis Bank.

Lionel Aingimea elected President of Nauru

  • Lionel Aingimea has won the election for President of country Nauru over his rival David Adeang.
  • Nauru Capital: Yaren; Nauru Currency: Australian Dollar.

Taylor Swift tops Forbes’ list of world’s highest-paid women in music

  • Forbes has released the list of top 10 highest-paid women in music. Singer Taylor Swift has topped the list with an earning of $185 million.
  • Other in the list are: (2) Beyoncé – Earnings: $81 million ; (3) Rihanna – Earnings: $62 million ; (4) Katy Perry – Earnings: $57.5 million ; (5) P!nk- Earnings: $57 million.

Sumit Nagal becomes first Indian to win a set against Roger Federer

  • Indian tennis player, Sumit Nagal faced Roger Federer during the ongoing US Open. Though Sumit lost the match 6-4, 1-6,2-6,4-6 against Federer, he became the first Indian player to win a set against Federer.
  • He also became only the fourth player to take the opening set against Federer at the US Open. Nagal had qualified for the US Open main draw. Nagal had become the youngest Indian in 25 years to qualify for the main draw of a Grand Slam as he had defeated Brazil’s Jaao Menezes 5-7, 6-4, 6-3. 

Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya, India’s First Woman DGP, Passes Away at 72

  • The first woman Director General of Police (DGP), Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya, has passed away following an illness. She was 72.
  • Ms Bhattachary was a 1973 batch IPS officer who made history to be appointed as the DGP of a state.
  • She was appointed the DGP of Uttarakhand in the year 2004 and retired from service on October 31, 2007.
  • She was also the second woman IPS officer in India after Kiran Bedi.

Former Volkswagen Chief Ferdinand Piech Passes Away at 82

  • An Austrian business magnate, Ferdinand Piech, former Chief of Volkswagen and grandson of the Porsche founder Ferdinand Porsche, passed away. He was 82.
  • In 1963, Piech joined Porsche, the firm founded by his grandfather, however, he left to join the Volkswagen Group’s Audi in 1975.
