Maharashtra cabinet Approves Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Farmer Loan Waiver & Shiv Bhojan Subsidised Meal scheme

The Shiv Sena-led government in Maharashtra has approved two news schemes namely

  1. Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Farmer Loan Waiver Scheme
  2. Shiv Bhojan Subsidised Meal Scheme

Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Farmer Loan Waiver Scheme

Short-term crop loan up to Rs 2 lakh taken by farmers between April 1, 2015-March 31, 2019, and short-term restructured crop loan arrears up to September 30, 2019, will be waived under the scheme.

Shiv Bhojan Subsidised Meal Scheme

  • The poor will be served meal at the subsidised rate of Rs 10 per plate at designated centres in all districts of the state.
  • The state government will incur an expenditure of Rs 6.4 crore for starting a pilot project that will run for three months.
  • At least one ‘Shiv Bhojan’ canteen will be started at district headquarters, each canteen will serve 500 thalis (plates).

Haryana to Observe Year 2020 as Susashan Sankalp Varsh

  • Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has announced to observe the year 2020 as “Susashan Sankalp Varsh”.
  • As a part of this, suggestions and reforms in the field of governance would be invited from people of the State, for which a dedicated website would also be prepared on which the people could upload their suggestions.
  • The best among all such suggestions would be considered by the State government.
  • Besides this, CM Khattar also launched five new e-initiatives which included:
    • Launch of Lokayukta portal
    • Addition of 42 new schemes and services on the dedicated Saral portal, taking the number of such schemes and services to 527
    • Launch of websites of all 22 districts in the state
    • Integration of 91 Tehsils to Web Helris (‘Web-Helris’ is a web-enabled integrated solution for deed registration and land records management.)
    • Digital map of village Sirsi (district Karnal), making it first village in the State to become ‘Lal Dora free’.

Indian Railway Launches Him Darshan Express to Run Between Kalka and Shimla

  • The Indian Railways have started the new Him Darshan Express train to run between Haryana’s Kalka and Shimla stations, as a Christmas gift to the people, with effect from December 25, 2019.
  • The ‘Him Darshan’ train has a seating capacity of over 100 passengers and is the first train of the Indian Railways having all vistadome coaches to run on a regular basis.
  • The Train comprises seven coaches including six First Class air-conditioned vistadome coaches with glass rooftop to have a panoramic view of the hilly region and one First Class coach.
  • The initiative aims to promote tourism and provide a delightful experience to the passengers on the world heritage Kalka-Shimla section.

India’s first university for transgender community to be opened in Kushinagar District of UP

  • In a first-of-its-kind initiative, India’s first university for transgender community is set to come up Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh.
  • The University will facilitate its members to study right from class one to PG and even do research and get PhD degree.
  • The university is being built by the Akhil Bhartiya Kinnar Siksha Seva Trust (All-India transgender education service trust) in Fazilnagar block of Kushinagar district.

BHEL Commissions Country’s First lignite-based 500 MW Power Project in Tamil Nadu

  • The State-run BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited) has commissioned the first lignite-based 500 MW thermal power plant “Neyveli New Thermal Power Project” in Tamil Nadu.
  • This is India’s first lignite-fired 500 MW power plant as well as highest rating pulverised lignite-fired thermal unit commissioned in the country so far.
  • The project is owned by NLC India Ltd (NLCIL) and is located in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu.
  • Neyveli New Thermal Power Project is 2 X 500 MW power plant. The second unit of the project is also in an advanced stage of commissioning.

RBI appoints J&K Bank as Lead Bank Convenor for UT of J&K and SBI for UT of Ladakh

  • The Reserve Bank of India has appointed Jammu & Kashmir Bank Ltd. as the UTLBC (Union Territory Lead Bank Convenor) for the newly carved out Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
  • State Bank of India (SBI) will be the lead convenor bank for Union Territory of Ladakh.

IMF Retains India’s Growth Forecast at 6.1% for FY20

  • The International Monetary Fund (IMF) in its latest report has retained India’s economic growth forecast at 6.1 percent for FY20.
  • IMF’s projection is much higher than those by most agencies for FY20.
    • Reserve Bank of India: 5 percent
    • Standard & Poor’s : 5.1 percent
    • Moody’s : 4.9 percent
    • Fitch’ : 4.6 percent

Aayushi Dholakia Becomes First Indian to Win Miss Teen International 2019

  • The 27th edition of the Miss Teen International pageant 2019 was held on December 19, 2019 at the JaiBagh Palace in Jaipur, India.
  • India’s Aayushi Dholakia has won the 2019 Miss Teen International by beating participants from 22 countries.
  • With this, she became the first Indian as well as Asian to win the title in the 27 years history of the beauty pageant.
  • She was crowned by the previous year winner Odalys Duarte of Mexico.
  • Yessenia Garcia from Paraguay came as the First Runners-Up and Anicia Gaothusi from Botswana came as the Second Runners-Up.

Krish Srikkanth & Anjum Chopra to receive BCCI’s CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award 2019

  • Former India captain and member of the 1983 World Cup winning team Krishnamachari Srikkanth has been named as the recipient of the prestigious CK Nayudu Lifetime Award for the year 2019, given by the BCCI.
  • Former India women’s captain Anjum Chopra is the co-recipient of the lifetime achievement award for the year 2019.

UN Declares Malala Yousafzai as ‘Most Famous Teenager Of Decade’

  • The United Nations released its ‘Decade in Review’ on December 23 that included big stories from the Decade.
  • The UN’s Decade in Review has declared Nobel laureate and a Pakistani education activist, Malala Yousafzai as the ‘Most famous teenager of the decade’.
