B S Yediyurappa sworn in as CM of Karnataka

  • B S Yediyurappa has been sworn in as Chief Minister of Karnataka. He is the BJP State President in Karnataka.
  • He has now taken the oath of office as Chief Minister of Karnataka for the fourth time.
  • This comes after the ex-Chief Minister of Karnataka (HD Kumaraswamy) has submitted his resignation to the Governor of Karnataka as he failed to pass the trust vote of the assembly.

India’s armed forces conduct India’s first Space warfare exercise “IndSpaceEx”

  • India’s first Space warfare exercise “IndSpaceEx” was conducted by the three armed forces along with DRDO on July 25 and July 26, 2019. The exercise was held in Andaman Island in Bay of Bengal sea.
  • The aim of the exercise was to assess our preparation for possible war outside the Earth.
  • The forces are developing a Joint Space Doctrine which will help India to prepare for future space wars.

Govt constitutes committee for regulation of medical devices; Head- Dr. V.G. Somani

  • The Union health ministry has constituted a 22-member Medical Devices Technical Advisory Group (MDTAG) committee to advise Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) on matters related to the regulation of medical devices.
  • The committee will be headed by Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI)- Dr. V.G. Somani.

Sebi fixes minimum staggered delivery period for commodity futures at 5 days

  • SEBI has fixed the minimum duration of the staggered delivery period at five working days for all commodity futures. This has been done to bring uniformity in the timeline across exchanges.
  • Staggered delivery period is the duration during which sellers or buyers having open position may submit an intention to give or take the delivery of the contract.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury appointed chairman of Public Accounts Committee (PAC)

  • Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury of Congress Party has been appointed as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
  • The PAC has 15 members from the Lok Sabha and 07 from Rajya Sabha.
  • The Public Accounts Committee is a committee of selected members of parliament, constituted by the Parliament of India, for the purpose of auditing the revenue and the expenditure of the Government of India.

Priti Patel takes charge as first British Indian home secretary

  • Priti Patel has taken charge as Britain’s first Indian-origin home secretary.
  • She replaces Pakistani-origin Sajid Javid.

BYJU’S to replace OPPO as Official Sponsor of Cricket Team India

  • The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that BYJU’S will be the new sponsor of Indian Cricket Team from September 2019.
  • BYJU’S will replace OPPO as the sponsor from September 5 and will continue till March 31, 2022.
  • BYJU’S is a learning platform for school students.

Global Ayurveda Summit 2019 to be held at Kochi, Kerala

  • The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will organise the third edition of Global Ayurveda Summit 2019 in Kochi, Kerala. The event will be held on October 30 and 31, 2019.
  • Theme of Global Ayurveda Summit 2019: ‘Mainstreaming Ayurveda Startups, Innovation and Branding,’

Dressel breaks Phelps’s 100m butterfly 10-year-old world record

  • American Caeleb Dressel broke the world record in the men’s 100 metres butterfly set by Michael Phelps.
  • Dressel took 49.50 seconds in Gwangju, 0.32 quicker than the record set by Phelps’s in 2009 world championships in Rome.
  • Also, Kristof Milak of Hungary broke the record of Michael Phelps in 200m butterfly. Milak touched in 1 minute, 50.73 seconds whereas Phelps took 1:51.51 at the 2009 worlds in Rome.

Kargil Vijay Diwas : July 26, 2019

  • Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year on July 26 since the year 1999. The day is dedicated to our Kargil War’s Heroes. This was the 20th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas.
  • It is celebrated to in view of Operation Vijay and Kargil War that ended on July 26, 1999. After this, India successfully took command of the high outposts which had been lost to Pakistan. 

Veteran journalist, writer and lyricist Srikanta Sarma passed away

  • Veteran journalist, writer and lyricist Indraganti Srikanta Sarma has passed away at the age of 75 years.
  • He had worked at All India Radio and had also edited a Telugu magazine. Some of the prominent works of Sarma as a writer include ‘Malavika’ and ‘Aalapana’.
