Sangai Festival 2019 Commences in Manipur

  • The annual week-long Manipur Sangai Festival 2019 was inaugurated formally at Hapta Kangjeibung at Imphal on November 24, 2019.
  • The “Manipur Sangai Festival” is celebrated in the State of Manipur from 21st to 30th November every year since 2010.
  • The ‘Festival’ is named after the State animal, Sangai, the brow-antlered deer found only in Manipur.
  • It is organized by the State Tourism Department and is the biggest festival held  to promote tourism.

Ocean Dance Festival 2019 Concludes in Cox Bazar, Bangladesh

  • The 2019 edition of the four day long Ocean Dance Festival was held in Cox Bazar of Bangladesh from November 22-25, 2019.
  • The theme of 2019 festival was ‘Bridging the distance’ or Durotter Shetubandhan.
  • Ocean Dance Festival is the largest international dance festival of Bangladesh.
  • More than 200 dancers, choreographers and scholars from 15 countries participated in the festival.
  • The festival aims to expand cultural tourism in Bangladesh and also to bridge the cultural and economic distances among the countries.
  • It was inaugurated by State minister of cultural affairs KM Khalid.
  • The festival was organised by the Nrityajog, the Bangladesh wing of World Dance Alliance (WDA).

Etawah Lion Safari in Uttar Pradesh opened for public

  • The Uttar Pradesh based Etawah Lion Safari, which was formerly known as Etawah  Safari Park and officially as Lion Breeding Center and Multiple Safari Park, Etawah has been opened for public without the lion segment, with effect from November 24, 2019.
  • The Safari was inaugurated by the Uttar Pradesh Forest Minister Dara Singh Chauhan.
  • It is one of the biggest safari parks in Asia, spread over an area of 350 hectares (860 acres).
  • The Etawah lion safari is the first in India to have a lion breeding centre set up with an aim to develop a research facility on Asiatic lions.
  • The Safari project was envisioned by then Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav in 2005.

Centre Extends Ban on Assam based Bodo Insurgents Group for 5 years

  • The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has issued orders to extend the ban on Assam-based Bodo insurgent group National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) by another five years, since the terrorist outfit had continued to indulge in illegal and violent activities which disrupts the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India.
  • The ban on NDBF has been extended under the provisions of sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
  • Formed in 1986, the NDFB seeks to obtain a sovereign Boroland for the Bodo people.
  • The group was first declared an outlawed organisation in 1990s and since then, the ban has been extended every five years.

Lakshya Sen wins Scottish Badminton Open title

  • India’s Lakshya Sen defeated Ygor Coelho of Brazil, 18-21, 21-18, 21-19, to win Scottish Open men’s single badminton title.
  • This is his fourth title since September 2019 which also includes SaarLorLux Open, Dutch Open, and Belgian International.
  • The Scottish Open 2019 was held from November 21- 24, 2019 at Glasgow, Scotland.

Rafael Nadal Beat Denis Shapovalov to Win 2019 Davis Cup Title

  • In tennis, world number one Rafael Nadal of Spain beat Denis Shapovalov of Canada 2-0 to clinch the 2019 Davis Cup title held at Madrid, Spain.
  • For Spain, this is the first Davis Cup title since 2011 and their sixth Davis Cup title overall.
  • Rafael Nadal was also named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament which took place from November 18-24, 2019.

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women: 25 November

  • The United Nations designated International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women to be celebrated worldwide on November 25.
  • Purpose: to raise awareness of the fact that women around the world are subject to various forms of violence and true nature of the issue is often hidden.
  • 2019 it is “Orange the World: Generation Equality Stands Against Rape”.
