29th WCO Asia Pacific Regional Contact Points (RCP) Meet Held in Puducherry

  • The 29th edition of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Asia Pacific Regional Contact Points (RCP) meeting was held at Puducherry, Tamil Nadu from November 18 to 20, 2019 to facilitate customs functions, operations and services in the Asia-Pacific region..
  • The conference was hosted by the Chennai Customs Zone and inaugurated by Pranab Kumar Das, Chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).
  • World Customs Organisation (WCO) headquarter – Brussels, Belgium

New Delhi ranked 9th in fastest growing prime residential market in world; Top- Moscow

  • As per the ‘Prime Global Cities Index’ by Global property consultant Knight Frank, New Delhi has been ranked at 9th place in terms of fastest growing prime residential market in the world.
  • Moscow has topped the ranking. Bengaluru is at 20th while Mumbai is ranked at 28th position.
  • Frankfurt is at second and Taipei is at third. Seoul was the weakest-performing global city in the year

Satya Nadella tops Fortune’s Businessperson of the Year 2019 list

  • Microsoft’s Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella has topped the Fortune’s Businessperson of the Year 2019 list. The list features 20 Businesspersons.
  • Elizabeth Gaines of Fortescue Metals Group is on second, Brian Niccol is on third.
  • Ajay Banga the CEO of Mastercard is the top Indian in the list and is ranked at 8th spot. Jayshree Ullal of Arista is ranked at 18th.

Virat Kohli named PETA India’s 2019 Person of the Year

  • Indian Cricketer, Virat Kohli has been named as the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India’s Person of the Year 2019.
  • Virat Kohli is a fierce animal rights proponent who never hesitates to run out cruelty to animals any way he can.
  • Earlier, this accolade has been received by Shashi Tharoor, Anushka Sharma, Sunny Leone, Sonam Kapoor, Hema Malini, R Madhavan, Jacqueline Fernandez and former Supreme Court Justice KS Panicker Radhakrishnan.

Kolkata Becomes First Indian City to Install ‘Third Umpire’ RT-PCR Machines

  • The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has installed India’s first-of-its-kind high-end Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) machines for quick detection of diseases like dengue, tuberculosis and swine flu.
  • The RT-PCR machines will serve as a ‘third umpire’ in situations when medical reports and blood tests reveal contradictory results.
  • These machines will give accurate DNA report on blood tests in order to ascertain the exact cause of illness.

Visakhapatnam Police launches cybersecurity interactive robotic agent named CYBIRA

  • Visakhapatnam Police have launched first of its kind cybersecurity interactive robotic agent robot named CYBIRA to improve the efficiency to address the complaints.
  • The robot is stationed at Maharanipeta Police Station and can automatically take complaints in an effective manner.
  • ‘CYBIRA’ (cybersecurity interactive robotic agent) has been developed for registering and disposing of complaints at the police station in an effective manner.

IRCTC Signs MoU with Karnataka Tourism to market & run Golden Chariot train

  • The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) to market and operate the Golden Chariot train.
  • The Golden Chariot train is a joint venture between Government of Karnataka and Ministry of Railways.
  • The Government of Karnataka and KSTDC have been operating and maintaining Golden Chariot since its inception in 2008.
  • It is the first and only luxury train in the whole South India.
  • KSTDC will soon hand over the reins of the train to IRCTC, which will carry out an internal refurbishment of the train and commence operations from March 2020.

David Attenborough Honored With Indira Gandhi Peace Prize for 2019

  • Renowned naturalist and broadcaster Sir David Attenborough has been awarded the 2019 Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development.
  • His name was selected by an international jury chaired by former president Pranab Mukherjee.
  • The prestigious award is given annually by Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust to individuals or organisations in recognition of creative efforts toward promoting international peace, development and a new international economic order.

Bajrang Punia and Mahant Gaurav Sharma Felicitated in Dubai

  • Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia and World powerlifting champion Gaurav Sharma have bee awarded at the Indo Arab Leaders Summit & Awards 2019 in Dubai on November 15.
  • Bajrang has been conferred the Indian Personality of the Year Award (Sports)
  • Gaurav Sharma was honoured with Visionary Leaders of the Year (Sports) award.
  • Sharma is also a ‘mahant’ (priest) in a temple in Chandni Chowk.

Bhubaneswar to host India’s home matches in 2020 Hockey Pro League

  • The second edition of the Hockey Pro League is scheduled to be held from January 18 to June 28, 2020.
  • The Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar will host the India’s home matches during the 2020 Hockey Pro League.
  • As per the International Hockey Federation (FIH),  2020 Pro League will feature 144 matches.
  • The first team that India will host is the Netherlands on January 18.

Universal Children’s Day – 20 November

  • Universal/World Children’s Day is celebrated on 20 November annually to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children’s welfare.
  • The day also marks the anniversary of adoption of Declaration and Convention of the Rights of the Child.
  • In 1959, UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child
  • In 1989 UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
  • 2019 marks the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
