National Conference on Unani Medicine Concludes in New Delhi

  • The two-day National Conference on Unani Medicine was organised in New Delhi from February 11-12, 2019.
  • It was inaugurated by Dr. Najma Heptulla, Governor of Manipur.
  • The theme of the conference was ‘Unani Medicine for Public Health
  • The conference was organized by the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) as a part of 3rd Unani Day celebration.
  • It highlighted the important role played by Unani Medicine in public health especially in combating NCDs, lifestyle disorders and various chronic diseases by providing cost effective treatment and quality products for patient healthcare.
  • Unani Day: Observed on 11 February annually to mark the birth anniversary of Hakim Ajmal Khan.

PM Modi Addresses CREDAI YouthCon -19 in New Delhi

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 3rd CREDAI YouthCon -19 at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi on 13 February 2019,
  • The two day event is organized by the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Association of India (CREDAI).
  • YouthCon is the annual Youth Conclave of CREDAI to bring together the young developers who are the future of the real estate Industry in India.
  • CREDAI is the apex body of all registered real estate builders and developers in India established in 1999.

Disaster Relief “Exercise Rahat” Held in Rajasthan

  • Two- day Joint Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Exercise “Exercise Rahat” was conducted in Rajasthan from February 11-12, 2019.
  • The exercise was organised by Jaipur based Sapta Shakti Command of Indian Army and involved all stake holders at the national and state level.
  • Representatives from Armed Forces, National Disaster Management, Response Mechanism (NDMRM), SDMA and DLMA, participated in the disaster management exercise.
  • The drill was conducted at 3 locations namely Jaipur, Alwar and Kota.
  • This is the eighth such exercise conducted by the Indian Defence Forces to prepare for relief operation in case of any earthquake like disaster. 

Indian Army demonstrated its artillery firepower at its annual ‘Exercise Topchi’ in Nashik

  • The Indian Army on February 12, 2019 demonstrated its artillery firepower at the annual ”Exercise Topchi” held near Nashik, Maharashtra.
  • The event took place at the firing ranges at Deolali Camp.
  • There was a display of rockets, missiles, surveillance and target acquisition radars, remotely piloted aircraft and hi-tech equipments. Latest ultra light Howitzer M-777, self-propelled gun K-9 Vajra and indigenous Swathi weapon-locating radar were displayed.

Multinational Cobra Gold Military Drill begins in Thailand

  • The 38th annual multinational military exercise Cobra Gold kicked off in Thailand on February 12, 2019.
  • The exercise is co-sponsored by the Royal Thai and U.S armed forces and will conclude on February 22.
  • About 10,000 personnel from 29 countries are taking part of which 27 nations are participating in full exercises while China and India will participate in civic-action parts of the exercise.
  • It is one of the Asia-Pacific region’s largest multinational military drill to bring together the military forces of Asian countries and the United States to improve the capabilities of participating nations to plan operations and conduct them together, build relationships and enhance maritime security and response to natural disasters.

e-AUSHADHI portal for Online Licensing System of AYUSH Medicine launched

  • e-AUSHADHI portal has been launched for online licensing of Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy drugs and related matters.
  • This e-portal (e-AUSHADHI) is an acronym for Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy Automated Drug Help Initiative.
  • The portal was launched by Minister of State (IC) for AYUSH, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik in New Delhi.

Tata Capital launches Chat Bot named Tia for loan disbursal

  • Tata Capital has launched a voice bot name Tia that can disburse personal loans without human intervention.
  • Tia is a voice-enabled bot and will assist a person seeking a loan from the first stage of the loan process – from checking loan eligibility, verifying the details, and finally, assessing whether the person can get loans from Tata Capital.
  • Currently, Tia converses only in English and is restricted to salaried employees.

Prafulla P. Chhajed elected as the President of ICAI

  • Prafulla P. Chhajed has been elected as the President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). Atul Kumar Gupta has been elected as the Vice-President of the ICAI on February 12, 2019.
  • They have been elected for a term of three years (2019-22).
  • The Council of ICAI constitutes of 40 members of whom 32 are elected by the Chartered Accountants and remaining 8 are nominated by the Central Government. 

Ashwani Lohani appointed Air India CMD

  • Ashwani Lohani has been appointed chairman and managing director (CMD) of Air India. Before this he has served as the Chairman of Railway Board.
  • Also this will be Lohani’s second term as the CMD of Air India.

Book Titled “What Marx Left Unsaid” Launched to Mark 200th Anniversary of Karl Marx

  • Noted Indian Politician and author, Manish Tewari, released the book “What Marx Left Unsaid” – Production of Skills by Means of Skills, during a function in New Delhi on February 10.
  • The book is based on the original ideas of Dr. Malay Chaudhuri and co-authored by Dr. Malay Chaudhuri, Dr. Arindam Chaudhuri and Che Kabir Chaudhuri.
  • This book on ‘Theory of Economic Justice’ calls for an exploitation-free world, where the maximum wage ratio between the highest paid and the lowest paid worker remains capped at 3:1.
  • The book was released to commemorate the 200th and 100th birth anniversaries of Karl Marx and ILO respectively.

Book “Let’s Talk On-Air: Conversations with Radio Presenters” by Rakesh Anand Bakshi Launched

  • The book titled “Let’s Talk On Air: Conversations with Radio Presenters”, authored by Rakesh Anand Bakshi was launched on February 13 in Mumbai on the occasion of World Radio Day.
  • This book describes the lives of fourteen eminent radio presenters, such as legendary Ameen Sayani, who used their iconic voices to entertain us via airwaves. 

Siddhartha Lal is the EY Entrepreneur Of the Year 2018; Azim Prem Ji gets Lifetime Achievement Award

  • Siddhartha Lal has won the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2018 Award at the 20th edition of the EOY (Entrepreneur Of the Year) Awards. He is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Eicher Motors. 
  • Azim Premji, Chairman of Wipro was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the EOY Awards 2018. 
  • Siddhartha Lal will now represent India at the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year Award (WEOY) in Monte Carlo from 6 – 8 June 2019.

World Radio Day: February 13

  • Every year, the World Radio Day is observed on 13 February to celebrate radio as a medium and recognize the power of radio to promote dialogue, tolerance and peace.
  • The theme of 2019 WRD isDialogue, Tolerance and Peace.

National Productivity Week 2019 Held from February 12-18

  • The National Productivity Council (NPC) observed its 61st Foundation Day on February 12 as National Productivity Day (NPD).
  • The National Productivity Week was celebrated from February 12-18, 2019.  
  • The theme for 2019 NPD was “Circular Economy for Productivity & Sustainability”.
  • NPC is an autonomous registered society under Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
