India to host 19th council of heads of government of SCO in 2020

  • SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov has announced that India will host the 19th council of heads of government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in 2020 in New Delhi. This is for the first time that India will host this meet.
  • Recently Rajnath Singh represented India at the 18th council of heads of government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

PM Modi to Visit Brasilia, Brazil to Attend BRICS Summit 2019

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the 11th edition of the BRICS summit to be held in Brasilia, Brazil on 13-14 November 2019.
  • The theme of the BRICS summit 2019 is “Economic Growth for an Innovative Future.”
  • PM Modi will be participating for the sixth time at the BRICS summit. He participated in BRICS summit for the first time at Fortaleza in Brazil in 2014.

“National Capital Region -2041” Conclave held in New Delhi

  • The inaugural conclave on “National Capital Region -2041” was held in New Delhi on November 11, 2019.
  • The conclave was chaired by Shri Durga Shankar Mishra, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India.
  • It was organized by the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB).
  • The theme of the conclave was “Planning for Tomorrow’s Greatest Capital Region”.
  • The Conclave was attended by all NCR participating States, concerned Ministries/Departments of Government of India, Knowledge Institutions, Industries, Housing Associations, Subject Experts, Field Officers from various districts, and other stakeholders.

Maharashtra under President’s rule for 3rd time

  • Based on Governor’s recommendation (Bhagat Singh Koshyari), President Ram Nath Kovind signed proclamation imposing President’s rule in Maharashtra.
  • This comes after Pre-poll allies BJP and the Shiv Sena who had won 161 seats were unable to form the government till such a long time after declaration of result on October 24, 2019.
  • In the election,the BJP emerged as the single largest party with 105 seats followed by the Shiv Sena 56, the NCP 54 and the Congress 44.
  • Overall, this is third time that Maharashtra has come under the central rule.
  • And this is the first instance in the 59-year-old history of the state when Article 356 has been invoked due to inability of political parties to form a government after an assembly election.

India-US disaster relief exercise ‘Tiger Triumph’ to start in Visakhapatnam

  • The first India-US joint tri-services Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Exercise named ‘Tiger Triumph’ is scheduled to begin at Visakhapatnam from November 13 to 21.
  • Indian Naval ships Jalashwa, Airavat and Sandhayak, Indian Army troops from 19 Madras and 7 Guards, and Indian Air Force MI-17 helicopters and Rapid Action Medical Team (RAMT) would take part in the exercise.
  • The opening ceremony along with a Joint Flag Parade will be held onboard INS Jalashwa on November 14. The Exercise would culminate with a closing ceremony onboard US Naval Ship Germantown on November 21.

SBI Report predicts India’s GDP for FY20 at 5% and FY21 at 6.2%

  • An SBI research report has predicted the GDP Growth rate of India for 2019-20 (FY20) at 5%. Earlier the projection was 6.1%.
  • As per the report, India is expected to grow at 6.2% in 2020-21 (FY21).

K. Ullas Karanth Honored with inaugural George Schaller Lifetime Award

  • Wildlife biologist K. Ullas Karanth, has been awarded the George Schaller Lifetime Award in Wildlife Conservation Science for his contribution to the field of conservation.
  • Karanth, who is the Director at Centre for Wildlife Studies, Bengaluru, is the first recipient of the award instituted by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), New York.
  • The award has been constituted in honour of Dr. George Schaller, who is considered one of the greatest wildlife scientists and conservationists globally.
  • It has been created to honour outstanding contributions to saving wildlife and wild places.

Public Service Broadcasting Day: November 12

  • Public Service Broadcasting Day is celebrated every year on November 12 to commemorate the first and only visit of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, to the studio of All India Radio, Delhi in 1947.
  • Mahatma Gandhi addressed the displaced people (refugee from Pakistan), who had temporarily settled at Kurukshetra in Haryana after partition.

World Pneumonia Day: November 12

  • The World Pneumonia Day is observed across the world on November 12 every year to raise awareness, promote prevention and treatment and produce action to combat the disease.
  • The theme for World Pneumonia Day 2019 is “healthy lungs for all”.
