Facebook launches ‘We Think Digital’ programme to provide digital literacy training to 1 lakh women in India

  • Facebook has launched its ‘We Think Digital’ programme to provide digital literacy training to 1 lakh women in India.
  • Under this programme, Facebook will provide digital literacy training to 1 lakh women across seven states.
  • For this Facebook has partnered with National Commission for Women (NCW) and Cyber Peace Foundation.

Induslnd Bank tops in highest growth in brand value among top global banks

  • Induslnd Bank has topped the list of highest increase in brand value among global banks, according to The Banker’s Top 500 Banking Brands 2020 report.
  • As per the report, the brand value of Induslnd Bank has increased by 122% over the past 1 year. This is the highest growth for any bank across the world.
  • IndusInd Bank is headquartered in Pune.

GIC Re gets license from Bank of Russia for reinsurance business

  • India’s reinsurance company, General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC Re) has received the license from Bank of Russia to commence reinsurance business in Russia.
  • GIC Re has obtained license from the Central Bank of the Russian Federation (Bank of Russia) for its subsidiary company “GIC Perestrakhovanie LLC”, Moscow for the commencement of reinsurance business.
  • The license enables the subsidiary to commence transacting domestic and international reinsurance business in Russia based on the capital invested by the Corporation.

Book titled “Messages from Messengers” authored by Priti K Shroff launched

  • A book titled “Messages from Messengers” which is authored by Priti K Shroff has been launched at an event with MD and CEO of the Bombay stock exchange, Ashish Chauhan as chief guest.
  • The book is about the connection with one’s inner-self and consciousness.

Novel titled ‘The Crossfire of Love’ authored by Dhiren Tiwari released

  • A novel titled ‘The Crossfire of Love’, authored by US-based author Dhiren Tiwari was released. It is a racing psychological romantic thriller.
  • It was launched by filmmaker and screenwriter Abhinav Kashyap of the ‘Dabangg’.
  • Soon after the release, the novel has topped the WH Smith Bestseller charts.

Vivek Sagar Prasad and Lalremsiami Win FIH Rising Star of the Year Awards 2019

  • Vivek Sagar Prasad and Lalremsiami have won the FIH Rising Star of the Year Awards 2019 in the male and female category respectively.
  • The award is given by International Hockey Federation for players in the field of Hockey.
  • Lalremsiami is the first woman from India to win this award while Vivek is the first male player from India to win this award.

FIFA, FIFPRO to launch global fund for salary protection of players – $16m by 2022

  • FIFA and FIFPRO (World Players’ Union) will launch a global fund for football players to provide financial support to players who have not been paid and have no chance of duly receiving the wages agreed with their clubs.
  • FIFA has set aside USD 16m for the fund up to 2022, and the allocation will be divided as follows: USD 3m in 2020, USD 4m in 2021 and USD 4m in 2022, plus a further USD 5m set aside for the retroactive protection of players’ salaries for the period between July 2015 and June 2020.

Kohli Retains Top Spot in Latest ICC ODI Rankings

  • In Cricket, Indian skipper Virat Kohli has retained the top spot in the Batting Ranking of the latest ICC ODI Rnkings released in Dubai on 11 February 2020.
  • His deputy Rohit Sharma also maintained the second position.
  • In Bowling Ranking, speedster Jasprit Bumrah lost the top spot to be placed at the second position. New Zealand pacer Trent Boult has taken the top spot.
  • Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi emerged as the new world number one all-rounder, followed by Ben Stokes of England.

World Unani Day: 11 February

  • World Unani Day is observed globally every year on February 11 to mark the birthday of “Hakim Ajmal Khan”, an eminent Indian Unani physician.
  • Khan was a great scholar, a social reformer, a noted freedom fighter, as well as Unani medical educationist and founder of scientific research in Unani System of Medicine.
  • The main objective of the day is to spread the awareness in masses and action about healthcare delivery through Unani system of medicine worldwide through its preventive and curative philosoph.
