RBI keeps Repo Rate unchanged at 4.0 per cent; GDP growth for 2022-23- 7.8 per cent.

  • Reserve Bank of India conducted the 6th and the last Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting for 2021-22 between February 8-10, 2022. 
  • Reserve Bank of India has kept the policy repo rate under the liquidity adjustment facility (LAF) unchanged at 4.0 percent. Various rates are as under: 
    • Policy Repo Rate : 4.00%
    • Reverse Repo Rate : 3.35%
    • Marginal Standing Facility Rate : 4.25%
    • Bank Rate : 4.25%
    • CRR : 4.00%
    • SLR : 18.00%
  • The MPC decided to continue with the accommodative stance.
  • RBI has projected the real GDP growth for 2022-23 at 7.8 per cent.

RBI reopens Voluntary Retention Route (VRR) with investment limit of ₹2,50,000 crore

  • The Reserve Bank of India had introduced the Voluntary Retention Route (VRR) for investments by Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) in debts in 2019 with an investment limit of ₹1,50,000 crore. Out of this, around ₹1,49,995 crore have been availed so far in three tranches.
  • Now RBI has increased this investment limit in VRR from Rs. 1,50,000 crore to Rs. 2,50,000 crore. The increased investment limits shall be open for allotment from April 01, 2022.
  • Minimum retention period: 3 years
  • The investment limit available for fresh allotment shall accordingly be ₹1,04,800 crore (net of extant allotments and adjustments).

Surat to get India’s 1st bullet train station

  • The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project will be India’s first bullet train route. While Surat city will get India’s first bullet train station.
  • National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL) will be constructing this project that is scheduled to be completed by December 2024.
  • The cost of the project is estimated to be more than 1 lakh crore of which 88,000 crores will be funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Pradip Shah appointed as Chairman of Pfizer India

  • Pradip Shah has been appointed as the Chairman of Pfizer India. He has replaced R A Shah as the chairman who resigned on February 3.
  • Pradip Shah is the ex-managing director and a founding member of Crisil.
  • He has also served as a consultant to USAID, the World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank.

Mumbai 5th, Bengaluru 10th most-congested city in the world; TomTom Traffic Index Ranking 2021

  • As per the TomTom Traffic Index Ranking 2021, Mumbai has been ranked at 5th, Bengaluru at 10th and New Delhi has been ranked at 11th place in terms of most congested cities in the world in 2021.
  • Istanbul, Turkey has been declared as the most congested city in the world as per the ranking.
  • The ranking covers 404 cities across 58 countries.

Ahmedabad IPL franchise names as ‘Gujarat Titans’; Hardik Pandya to be the captain

  • The Ahmedabad IPL franchise has been named “Gujarat Titans” by its owner CVC Capital. Hardik Pandya has been declared as the Captain of this team.
  • Earlier in January 2022, Lucknow’s IPL team was named as “Lucknow Super Giants” by its owner RPSG Group.

  • Objective: to spread the awareness in masses and action about healthcare delivery through Unani system of medicine worldwide through its preventive and curative philosophy.

Praveen Kumar Sobti, who played role of Bheem in Mahabharat passes away

  • Actor and athlete Praveen Kumar Sobti who is known for playing the role of Bheem in the TV series “Mahabharat” passes away at the age of 74 years. 
  • He was also an athlete and represented India for many games like hammer and discus throw and won four medals at the Asian Games, including two gold medals in 1966 and 1970.
