Hardeep Puri Launches Swachh Survekshan 2020 League

  • Hardeep S Puri, Minister of State (I/C) for Housing & Urban Affairs, launched the Swachh Survekshan 2020 League in New Delhi on 6 June, 2019.
  • Swachh Survekshan League 2020 will be conducted in 3 quarters, i.e. April- June, July – September and October- December 2019 for cleanliness assessment of cities and towns in India.
  • It will be integrated with the 5th edition of the annual cleanliness survey of urban India, Swachh Survekshan 2020, to be conducted between January – February 2020, and carry 25% weightage in the annual survey.
  • The main objective of the SS league 2020 is to encourage continuous maintenance of cleanliness in the cities and towns and not just before the Swachh Survekshan is conducted.

Pringles (R) India enters Guinness World Records For Creating Largest Sentence With Packaged Food

  • Pringles India, the iconic brand for potato chips, has entered the Guinness World Records for creating the largest sentence made with packaged food.
  • Pringles used 10,005 unopened cans of Pringles chips to write the life size message “#GetItBackIndia” as a cheer for the Team India in the ongoing World Cup in England and Wales.
  • The message is placed within the dimensions of 60 feet x 40 feet at the atrium of a mall in Kochi.

India’s first Dinosaur Museum opens in Gujarat

  • India’s first Dinosaur Museum cum Park has been inaugurated in Gujarat. The Museum has come up in Raiyoli in Mahisagar district in Gujarat.
  • It was inaugurated by Cheif Minister of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani. The museum is equipped with 3D Projection. The Gujarat state government would allocate Rs 10 crore fund to tourism to promote the site internationally.
  • This is India’s first such museum and the world’s third park. Raiyoli is globally known to be the third largest fossil site and the second largest dinosaur hatchery from where about 10,000 dinosaur eggs have been found.

Kumar Iyer Becomes First Indian-Origin Member of UK Foreign Office Board

  • The government of United Kingdom has appointed Kumar Iyer as the Chief Economist of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) with effect from July 2019.
  • He is the first Indian-origin person as well as first BAME (black and minority ethnic) to become FCO Board Member.
  • He has previously been based in Mumbai as Britain’s Deputy High Commissioner.

RBI imposes Rs 2 crore penalty on Kotak Mahindra Bank

  • The Reserve Bank of India has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 2 Crore on Kotak Mahindra Bank Limited for non-compliance to RBI’s guidelines on promoter shareholding.
  • The bank was directed by RBI to furnish information about details of the shareholding held by its promoters and to submit details of the proposed course of action/plans/strategy of the bank for complying with the permitted timeline for dilution of promoter shareholding.
  • After considering the reply received from the bank, submissions made by the bank during the personal hearing and the documents submitted by it, RBI came to the conclusion that the bank had failed to comply with the directions issued by RBI and decided to impose monetary penalty on the bank.

SriLankan Airlines is World’s Most Punctual Airline: Flightstats.com

  • Sri Lanka’s state-run Srilankan Airlines had been named as the world’s most punctual airline by the portal flightstats.com. The airline recorded 90.75 percent of its flights arriving on time in May 2019.
  • This is the second consecutive win for Srilankan Airlines. It also achieved the world’s number one ranking in September 2018 with a punctuality rating of 91.37 percent
  • Chile’s LATAM Airlines was placed second and All Nippon Airways of Japan stood third.

Rafael Nadal and Ashleigh Barty Clinches French Open 2019

  • In French Open 2019, Rafael Nadal beat Dominic Thiem to claim the singles title at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France on June 9, 2019.
  • With this victory, he has become the first tennis player to win the French Open single event record 12 times.
  • In women’s single, Australia’s Ashleigh Barty claimed her maiden grand slam title and also became the first Australian woman to win the French Open in 46 years, after Margaret Court (1973).
