World Congress of Poets 2019 Held in Bhubaneswar

  • The 39th edition of World Congress of Poets (WCP), 2019 was held at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KIIT & KISS) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha from October 2-6, 2019.
  • The theme of the 5 days poetry festival was “Compassion through Poetry”.
  • The event was chaired by the Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu and attended by Authors, Academicians and eminent Personalities from all across the globe.

First India International Cooperatives Trade Fair (IICTF) to be Held in New Delhi

  • The First ever India International Cooperatives Trade Fair (IICTF) will be held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from 11 to 13 October, 2019.
  • The fair will jointly be organised by National Cooperative Development Corporation in association with the Bangkok-based international organisation NEDAC and leading organisations in India like NAFED, APEDA and ITPO.
  • Bangladesh is the partner country in the event.
  • Delegates from 35 countries will take part in this three day event which aims to promote cooperative-to-cooperative trade within India and abroad leading to enhanced rural and farm prosperity.

Govt sets up high-level panel to check money laundering activities; Head- Ajay Bhushan Pandey

  • The Central Government has set up a high-level inter-ministerial committee for better coordination among various departments and law enforcement agencies to prevent money laundering activities.
  • The 19 member Inter-Ministerial Co-ordination Committee (IMCC) is headed by revenue secretary Ajay Bhushan Pandey.

IRDAI Sets Up Working Group (WG) to Revisit Product Structure of Title Insurance

  • The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has constituted a 12-member working group to revisit the product structure of title insurance, develop a standard product and recommend measures to spur demand for the product.
  • Chairperson: The WG will be chaired by T.L. Alamelu , the whole-time member of IRDAI, in-charge of non-life insurance.
  • It will have representatives from general insurance companies, Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) and IRDAI.
  • What is Title insurance: Title insurance is an insurance of indemnity. It basically provides indemnity to developers and the subsequent home owners of the property against losses and risks related to defects in the title of the property. It even covers issues which are not discovered prior to the commencement date of the policy.

2019 Nobel Prize In Physics Awarded to Three Scientists For New Understanding of Universe

  • The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, Stockholm, Sweden, has awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics 2019 to three scientists for contributions to our understanding of the evolution of the universe and Earth’s place in the cosmos.

Winners

  • James Peebles (USA) has won one half of the award for theoretical discoveries in physical cosmology.
  • Michel Mayor (Switzerland) and Didier Queloz (Switzerland) have jointly been awarded the other half of the award for the discovery of an exoplanet orbiting a solar-type star.

Saturn Overtakes Jupiter as Planet with Most Moons

  • A team of US scientists have recently discovered 20 new moons orbiting the planet Saturn.
  • Now, the total number of moons orbiting the ringed planet has increased to 82.
  • With this, Saturn has overtaken the planet Jupiter for having most number of moons, which has 79 moons.
  • However, Jupiter still has the biggest moon of any planets in our solar system.

Austria’s Christine Wolf Wins Hero Women’s Indian Open Golf Tournament

  • Austrian professional golfer Christine Wolf has won the the 13th edition of Hero Women’s Indian Open 2019 held at DLF Golf Course and Country Club in Gurugram, India.
  • It is the first Ladies European Tour title for the 30-year old player.

World Cotton Day: October 7

  • The first edition of the World Cotton Day (WCD) was inaugurated by the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva on October 7, 2019.
  • WCD Day has been initiated by the Group of Cotton-4 countries namely Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad and Mali to the reflect the importance of cotton as a global commodity.
  • The WTO Secretariat is organizing the WCD event in collaboration with the Secretariats of FAO, UNCTAD, ITC and ICAC.
