New series of visually impaired friendly coins of Rs.1, Rs.2, Rs.5, Rs.10 and Rs.20 launched

  • The finance ministry has launched new series of visually impaired friendly circulation coins in New Delhi. The denominations in which these new series coins are launched are: Rs.1, Rs.2, Rs.5, Rs.10 and Rs.20.
  • All coins except Rs 20 coin will be round in shape while the Rs 20 coin will be a polygon with 12 edges.
  • These coins are issued as per the Coinage of One Rupee, Two Rupees, Five Rupees, Ten Rupees and Twenty Rupees Rules, 2019

Important Cabinet Approvals on March 7, 2019

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the following Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) of India with various countries on March 7, 2019:

  1. UK – Cooperation on Cancer Research Initiative 
  2. Germany – Cooperation in the field of Occupational Safety and Health 
  3. Austria – Technology Cooperation in the Road Infrastructure Sector
  4. Belarus – Mutual Legal Assistance (MLAT) in Civil and Commercial Matters

Janaushadhi Diwas Observed on 7 March 2019

  • March 7, 2019 was observed as the ‘Janaushadhi Diwas’ across the country to boost and create awareness about use of generic medicines.
  • As a part of the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with owners of Janaushadhi Kendras and beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) across the country through video conference.
  • The Janaushadhi scheme (PMBJP) was launched by the government to provide quality medicines at affordable rates

Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry launches e-Dharti App for properties/land related matters

  • Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has launched a mobile app named e-Dharti App that will provide access to the three main modules of Land & Development Office (L&DO). The three modules are: Conversion, Substitution and Mutation
    • Conversion of property from leasehold to freehold
    • Substitution of names of legal heirs and 
    • Mutation in the name of purchaser, etc

Uttarakhand Government launches “Mukhyamantri Anchal Amrit Yojana” a free milk scheme

  • Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat has launched a scheme named “Mukhyamantri Anchal Amrit Yojana” for providing free milk to children of Anganwadi Centers.
  • Under the  “Mukhyamantri Anchal Amrit Yojana” 2.5 lakh children at 20,000 Anganwadi kendras in the state will be given 100 ml milk twice a week for free.
  • As many as 18,000 children suffer from malnutrition in the state of Uttarakhand, So this is a step to fight against malnutrition

West Bengal Government launches Yuvashree Arpan Scheme for the youth

  • Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee has announced a new scheme ‘Yuvashree Arpan’ for the youths of the state. Under this scheme, 50,000 youth in the State will receive financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh for setting up an enterprise.
  • The ‘Yuvashree Apran’ Scheme will be funded by MSME department.

World Bank to give Rs 2,200 cr to Andhra Pradesh for healthcare project

  • The World Bank has signed a loan agreement worth $328 million (Rs 2,200 Crore) with the Central Government and Government of Andhra Pradesh for a project that aims to strengthen the Healthcare of Andhra Pradesh state.
  • The loan aims to strengthen the AP Health Systems Strengthening Project (APHSSP). The loan has been granted by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) arm of World Bank.

IBBI Inks Cooperation Agreement With International Finance Corporation for Effective Implementation of IBBI Code, 2016

  • The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) has signed a Cooperation Agreement with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a Member of the World Bank Group (WBG) on March 6, 2019.
  • Under the agreement, IFC will assist the IBBI in the effective implementation of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 and its Allied Rules and Regulations by providing technical assistance to further build the capacity of the Insolvency Professionals, and Insolvency Professional Agencies.
  • The Cooperation Agreement will be valid up to 30 June, 2021.

India Collaborates with Google Arts & Culture for Largest Online Exhibition ‘Once Upon a Try’

  • The Kolkata based National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and Google Arts & Culture have collaborated for the massive online exhibition named ‘Once Upon a Try’: Epic journeys of invention and discovery.
  • The online exhibition, launched on March 6, has over 400 interactive exhibitions on display. It is the largest interactive online exhibition about inventions and discoveries ever curated
  • It contains collections, stories and knowledge from over 110 renowned institutions from across 23 countries to explore and pay tribute to humanity’s greatest inventions and discoveries in science and technology.
  • National Council of Science Museums has also contributed six interactive stories that share some key insights into the long and glorious Science and Technology Heritage of India.

Businesses need to pay up to Rs 20 for using Aadhaar services: UIDAI

  • Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that the Business organisations using Aadhaar services will now have to pay fees:
    • For each customer verification/Aadhaar authentication services: Rs 20 (including taxes)
    • For authentication of each transaction carried out by the entities (e-KYC transaction/for each Yes and No authentication transaction): Rs 0.50 (including taxes)
  • UIDAI, however, exempts government entities and the Department of Posts from authentication transaction charges.

Raghuram Rajan to get Yashwantrao Chavan National Award 2018

  • Former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, Shri. Raghuram Rajan has been chosen for the ‘Yashwantrao Chavan National Award 2018’ for his contribution towards economic development of India.
  • The Award is named after Yashwantrao Chavan who was the first chief minister of Maharashtra. Raghuram Rajan will be presented the award on March 12 on the occasion of 106th birth anniversary of late Yashwantrao Chavan.

BBC journalist Priyanka Dubey chosen for Outstanding Woman Journalist for the year 2018

  • Priyanka Dubey, a journalist at BBC has been chosen for the Chameli Devi Jain Award for an Outstanding Woman Journalist for the year 2018.
  • The Chameli Devi Jain Award is named after Chameli Devi Jain and is the longest running media award in India for women running for the past 37 years.
