Government Introduces Transport and Marketing Assistance (TMA) Scheme for Specified Agriculture Products

  • The Government of India has come up with a scheme called ‘Transport and Marketing Assistance’ (TMA) to provide financial assistance for exporting specified agriculture products to international market.
  • The assistance will be given for the international component of freight and marketing of agricultural produce which in turn will reduce the cost of transportation as well as promote brand recognition for Indian agricultural products in the specified overseas markets.
  • Currently the scheme will be effective from 1 March 2019 to 31 March 2020.

Odisha govt launches ‘Mukhya Mantri Karigar Sahayata’ scheme for craftsmen

  • Odisha government has launched a scheme named ‘Mukhya Mantri Karigar Sahayata’ on March 05, 019 for craftsmen/sculptors of Odisha to provide them with monthly assistance. The scheme was inaugurated by CM of Odisha, Shri Naveen Patnaik.
  • Monthly amount/assistance for Craftsmen with more than 10 years of experience and annual income below Rs 1 lakh = Rs 800/month
  • Monthly amount/assistance for Craftmen with age more than 80 years = Rs 1000/month

Maharashtra govt launches Aaple Sarkar chatbot

  • The government of Maharashtra has launched a chatbot named “Aaple Sarkar” to provides easy access to information regarding 1,400 public services managed by the state government of Maharashtra.
  • The government of Maharashtra has tied up with Mumbai-based AI startup, Haptik for the chatbot. 

Google launches tutor app ‘Bolo’ for kids in India

  • Google has launched a mobile app named “Bolo” that parents of primary grade students can use to improve the Hindi and English reading skills of the student.
  • The app has a reading buddy named “Diya” that can guide the students by explaining and correcting the students when they read aloud.
  • The Bolo App has been first launched in India. 

OECD Lowers Global Growth Forecast to 3.3 Percent for 2019

  • The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, OECD, has once again cut its 2019 forecast for global economic growth by 0.2 percentage points at 3.3 percent due to ongoing trade tensions and Brexit uncertainty.
  • The organisation had earlier predicted 3.5 percent growth in November 2018, which was itself a downgrade from a previous 3.7 percent.
  • The interim version of Economic Outlook of OECD was released on March 6, 2019.
  • For 2020, OECD has also cut global growth forecast by 0.1 percentage point at 3.4 percent 

Swachh Survekshan Awards 2019 : Indore Adjudged Cleanest City for 3rd Straight Year

  • The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, conferred the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2019 on March 6, 2019 in New Delhi.
  • The Swachh Survekshan awards are cleanliness awards given by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
  • Indore was presented with the India’s cleanest city award for the third straight year.
  • The survey took place in January 2019 in complete digital format for data collection. It covered 4,237 cities in a record time of 28 days.

Mukesh Ambani ranked 13th in Forbes World’s Billionaires list 2019; Top – Jeff Bezos

  • Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has topped the Forbes World’s Billionaires list 2019 with a net worth of $ 131 billion. He is followed by Bill Gates (2nd) and Warren Buffett (at 3rd).
  • Mukesh Ambani is the top Indian in the list and has been ranked at 13th. (Networth- $ 50 billion). Azim Premji is the second richest Indian and was ranked 36th in the list. There are 4 Indians in the top 100. Rest two- Shiv Nadar at 82; Lakshmi Mittal at 91.
  • Kylie Jenner (US) is the world’s youngest billionaire at age 21.

Scientist A.K. Mohanty appointed chief of BARC

  • Scientist Ajit Kumar Mohanty has been appointed as the Director of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC).
  • The BARC is India’s premier nuclear research facility based in Mumbai.

Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde appointed Executive Chairman of NALSA

  • Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde has been appointed as the Executive Chairman of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) with effect from March 7, 2019. 
  • Justice Bobde will replace Justice AK Sikri who retires on February 06, 2019. 
  • .The NALSA was constituted under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, to provide free legal services to the weaker sections of the society and organise Lok Adalats for amicable settlement of disputes.

Kudo International Federation India Gets Recognition as National Sport Federation

  • The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has granted provisional recognition to Kudo International Federation India (KIFI) as National Sport Federation with immediate effect. 
  • The grant of recognition is subject to compliance of the provisions of National Sports Development Code of India, 2011 as modified from time to time.
  • The KIFI Association will now be responsible for promotion and Development of Kudo sport in India.
  • Kudo is an official Japanese Cultural martial arts form under the same category as Judo, Aikido and Kendo.
