National Security Advisor Ajit Kumar Doval Inaugurates 2019 Goa Maritime Conclave

• The Goa Maritime Conclave (GMC) 2019 was inaugurated by the National Security Advisor, Shri Ajit Kumar Doval, at Goa on October 4, 2019.
• The conclave was conducted by the Naval War College, Goa.
• The theme for the conclave was “Common Maritime Priorities in IOR and need for Regional Maritime Strategy”.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur Launches Pragati Rath of HDFC Bank

• Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur launched a month long initiative ‘Pragati Rath’ of the HDFC Bank on October 3 to encourage people to adopt digital banking and also impart financial literacy.
• Pragat Rath is a unique high-tech van which would move to different parts of Himachal Pradesh to provide financial and digital literacy to the people of the state.
• HDFC Bank has also provided a cheque of Rs 1 crore towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

India’s First-Ever Floating Basketball Court Opens in The Arabian Sea in Mumbai

• The National Basketball Association (NBA) has launched the first-ever Floating Basketball Court of India in the Arabian Sea near Bandra Worli Sealink in Mumbai.
• NBA is a men’s professional basketball league in North America and is composed of 30 teams.

Ramnath Kovind Appoints Chief Justices of 7 High Courts

The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind appointed the Chief Justices of seven high courts on October 3, 2019. They are:

1. Justice A Mani Kumar – Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court.
2. Justice J K Maheshwari – Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh HC
3. Justice Lingappa Narayana Swamy – Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh HC
4. Justice Ravi Shankar Jha – Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana HC
5. Justice Ajai Lamba – Chief Justice of the Gauhati HC
6. Justice Indrajt Mahanty – Chief Justice of the Rajasthan HC
7. Justice Arup K Goswami  – CJ of Sikkim HC.

Bhumi Pednekar wins Face of Asia award at Busan International Film Festival

• Indian Actor Bhumi Pednekar has been awarded the Face of Asia award the 24th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF).
• Bhumi’s upcoming film “Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitaare”, which features her along side Konkona Sen, had its world premiere at BIFF

Uco Bank Unveils Three New Digital Products

• Kolkata based Uco Bank has launched three new digital products which includes UCash, Digilocker and a mobile app.
• The inauguration was done by UCO bank’s Managing Director and CEO, A K Goel.
• UCash – Customers will be able to withdraw money from ATMs through mobile banking without using debit card
• Digilocker – It will eliminate the use of physical documents and enable sharing of verified electronic documents.
• New mobile app- It will integrate four existing apps of the bank in a single interface. The apps are UCO Mbanking, UCO UPI, UCO Mpassbook and UCO Secure.

World Teachers’ Day: October 5

• World Teachers’ Day (International Teachers Day) is held annually on October 5 to focus on “appreciating, assessing and improving the educators of the world” and to provide an opportunity to consider issues related to teachers and teaching.
• Theme 2019: “Young Teachers: The future of the Profession.”
• The day was established in 1994, to commemorate the signing of the 1966 UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which is a standard-setting instrument that addresses the status and situations of teachers around the world.
