RBI Reduces Repo Rate by 25 bps to 5.15%

  • In its Fourth Bi-monthly Monetary Policy Meeting, 2019-20, the Reserve Bank of India has reduced the Repo rate under the liquidity adjustment facility (LAF) by 25 bps to 5.15%. The various rates are:
    1. Policy Repo Rate : 5.15%
    2. Reverse Repo Rate : 4.90%
    3. Marginal Standing Facility Rate : 5.40%
    4. Bank Rate : 5.40%
    5. CRR : 4%
    6. SLR : 18.75%
  • RBI has revised the GDP growth target for 2019-20 to 6.1 percent. For 2020-21, GDP outlook is 7.2%.
  • The central bank has also decided to continue with accommodative stance.

S&P Global Ratings Projects India’s growth Forecast at 6.3% for FY20; 7% for FY21

  • S&P Global Ratings has cut the Gross Domestic Products (GDP) forecast for India for FY20 mainly due to decline in private consumption. The new rates are as under:
    • For FY20 (2019-20) – 6.3 %
    • For FY21 (2020-21) – 7 %

PM Modi Inaugurates Metro Express and ENT Hospital in Mauritius Via Video Link

  • Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth jointly inaugurated two landmark projects in Mauritius via video conference on October 3, 2019.
  • The two projects include: Phase-1 of the Metro Express and a new ENT Hospital.
  • The Government of India has granted $275 million for the Metro Express project and $14 million for the new Hospital Project.
  • The state-of-the-art energy efficient ENT Hospital is first paperless E-Hospital in Mauritius.

Ministry of Tourism Launches Audio Guide Facility App “Audio Odigos” for 12 Sites of India

  • The Ministry of Tourism has organised Paryatan Parv 2019 to be held from 2 to 13 October, 2019 across the country, to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
  • As a part of the 3rd edition of the Paryatan Parv, 2019, Tourism Ministry has launched the Audio Guide facility named ‘Audio Odigos’ for 12 sites of India (including Iconic Sites).
  • The Audio Odigos app contains an inbuilt map of the site for a smooth navigation during the tour.
  • The 12 sites for which the app can be used includes  Amer Fort, Rajasthan, Chandni Chowk, Red Fort, Purana Quila, Humayun’s tomb, Delhi, Fatehpur Sikri, Taj Mahal, Uttar Pradesh, Somnath and Dholavira, Gujarat, Khajuraho, Madhya pradesh, Mahabalipuram, Tamilnadu and  Mahabodhi Temple, Bihar.
  • The app has been developed by Resbird Technologies, that offers a range of software solutions & products that facilitate operations of travel agencies

President Ramnath Kovind Presents “Vayoshreshtha Samman 2019” to Eminent Senior Citizens & Institutions

  • The President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind presented the “Vayoshreshtha Samman 2019”  on October 3, 2019 in New Delhi to the eminent senior citizens and institutions.
  • Vayoshreshtha Samman is a scheme of awards, of the status of National Awards, instituted by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment for eminent senior citizens in recognition of their service/achievements and also institutions involved in rendering distinguished service for the cause of elderly persons.
  • These awards are presented to institutions/organisations/individuals as part of the celebration of the International Day of Older Persons (IDOP) which is celebrated every year on 1st October.

Drone Innovators Network Summit-2019 Held in New Delhi

  • The Drone Innovators Network Summit 2019 was held on October 1, 2019 in New Delhi.
  • The summit was organised by the World Economic Forum under the aegis of the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
  • National & International Aviation Regulatory bodies, Drone Industry and senior Civil Aviation Ministry officials participated in the Summit to share ideas of how to maximize the benefits of emerging drone technology while protecting society from the risks.

World Cotton Day event to be held in Geneva

  • The World Trade Organisation (WTO) is organizing World Cotton Day event at Geneva in Switzerland from October 7 to 11, 2019.
  • Textiles Minister Smriti Zubin Irani will participate in the plenary session of World Cotton Day and will represent India.
  • A sculpture of Mahatma Gandhi made out of cotton will be displayed to commemorate his 150th birth anniversary.

Power Theft Awareness Campaign ‘Urjagiri’ Launched in Uttarakhand

  • The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Trivendra Singh Rawat, launched an awareness campaign named Urjagiri in the state.
  • The campaign aims at spreading awareness about stopping power theft and saving.

Sushil Chandra Appointed as New CMD of Oil India Ltd

  • The Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) has appointed Sushil Chandra Mishra as the new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Oil India Ltd with effect from October 1, 2019.
  • He succeeds Utpal Bora and will serve the post till June 30, 2022.

Indo-Mongolian Joint Military Exercise Nomadic Elephant 2019 To Begin from October 05 to 18 at Bakloh

  • The 14th edition of Indo Mongolian joint military training Exercise Nomadic Elephant-XIV between Indian Army and Mongolian Army will commence from October 5, 2019 at Bakloh in Himachal Pradesh.
  • The 14 days exercise will culminate on 18 October 2019.

Indo-Maldives Joint Military Exercise Ekuverin 19 to be Held in Pune from 07-20 October

  • The tenth edition of the Joint Military Exercise Ekuverin 19, between the Indian Army and the Maldives National Defence Force, will be held at Aundh Military Station in Pune, Maharashtra from 07 to 20 October 2019.
  • Both the nations have been conducting Exercise Ekuverin, meaning ‘Friends’ in the Dhivehi language, since 2009.

World Space Week: October 4-10

  • Every year, the World Space Week (WSW) is observed from October 4 to 10 to celebrate science and technology, and their contribution to the betterment of the human condition.
  • It was declared by the United Nations General Assembly on December 6, 1999.
  • The 2019 theme: “The Moon: Gateway to the Stars”
  • The dates commemorate the launch of the first artificial satellite, Sputnik I, on 4 October 1957 and the entry into force of the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies on 10 October 1967.
