AYUSH Minister Inaugurates National Research Institute of Unani Medicine for Skin Disorders in Hyderabad

  • The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH Shri Shripad Yesso Naik inaugurated the upgraded National Research Institute of Unani Medicine for Skin Disorders (NRIUMSD) at AG Colony Road, Erragadda, Hyderabad.
  • NRUMSD has been upgraded from the Central Research Institute of Unani Medicine (CRIUM) to a premier institute under the CCRUM.
  • CRIUM is the only medical institution in the world which has treated more than 1.5 lakh patients of Vitiligo alone.

Biennial Commonwealth Law Ministers’ Conference begins in Colombo, Sri Lanka

  • The biennial Commonwealth Law Ministers’ Conference began in Colombo, Sri Lanka on November 04, 2019 and will continue till November 07, 2019.
  • Union Minister for Law and Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad will be representing India at the conference.
  • Theme of the event: “Equal Access to Justice and the Rule of Law”.
  • Purpose of the event: It seeks to address challenges faced by millions of people seeking to resolve legal problems or disputes.

BofAML predicts India’s GDP growth rate for FY20 at 5.8%

  • Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BofAML) has predicted India’s GDP growth rate for 2019-20(FY20) at 5.8%. Earlier it was predicted at 6.1%.
  • The reduction in the GDP growth rate has been done by BofAML due to less demand during the festive time of Diwali.

Indian-origin researcher Neeraj Sharma wins ‘Early Career Researcher of the Year’ award by Australian Govt

  • Indian-origin researcher Neeraj Sharma has been awarded the ‘Early Career Researcher of the Year’ award by the Australian government.
  • The award was given to the 35-year-old Sharma at the Government House in Sydney by New South Wales (NSW) Premier, Gladys Berejiklian during the NSW Premier’s Prizes for Science & Engineering.
  • Sharma who is a professor at University of South Wales (UNSW)’s School of Chemistry, Sydney was awarded for developing next-generation battery systems such as sodium-ion battery that will leave minimal environmental impact.

Valtteri Bottas wins US Grand Prix 2019; Hamilton awarded F1 World Drivers’ Championship 2019

  • Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes – Finland) has won the Formula One, United States Grand Prix 2019.
  • Lewis Hamilton was on second, Max Verstappen on third, Charles Leclerc on fourth and Alexander Albon on fifth.
  • However, it must be noted that, after the US Grand Prix 2019, Lewis Hamilton was awarded his sixth F1 world title i.e Lewis Hamilton has won the Formula One World Drivers’ Championship for 2019.
  • The maximum number of Formula One World Drivers’ Championship has been won by Michael Schumacher with 7 titles.

Ashleigh Barty wins WTA Finals (Tennis)

  • Ashleigh Barty of Australia defeated the defending champion Elina Svitolina to win the WTA Finals 2019 in women’s single.
  • The WTA Finals is a tournament of the Women’s Tennis Association played annually at the end of the season for the top-ranked professional players.
  • K. Mladenovic and T. Babos won the women’s double of WTA Finals.

Lakshya Sen Wins SaarLorLux Open Badminton Tournament in Germany

  • India’s Lakshya Sen beat China’s Weng Hong Yan, 17-21 21-18 21-16, to clinch the SaarLorLux Open badminton tournament 2019 held at Saarbrücken in Germany.
  • This is his third successive singles title of the season as well as second successive BWF World Tour Super 100 title.

Wrestler Pooja Gehlot wins silver in UWW Under-23 World Championships

  • In wrestling, India’s Pooja Gehlot (53kg) lost to Japan’s Haruna Okuno to settle for silver in the finals of the UWW Under-23 World Championships.
  • The Championship took place from October 28 to November 3 at Budapest in Hungary.
  • In addition, Ravinder (61kg) also won silver medal for India.

Novak Djokovic beat Denis Shapovalov to win fifth Paris Masters title

  • Novak Djokovic defeated Canadian Denis Shapovalov 6-3, 6-4 at the Rolex Paris Masters at Bercy on November 3, to lift his fifth Paris Masters title.
  • Overall this is the 34th ATP Masters 1000 title for the Serbian Djokovic, compared to Rafael Nadal’s 35. Roger Federer has 28.
  • The Rolex Paris Masters is the ninth and final ATP Masters 1000 event of the regular men’s tennis season.
