Abhinandan Varthaman to Get First Ever ‘Bhagwan Mahavir Ahimsa Puraskar’

  • Abhinandan Varthaman, a wing-commander in the Indian Air Force, who was recently held captive by Pakistan, will be honored with the first ever ‘Bhagwan Mahavir Ahimsa Puraskar’.
  • The award has been instituted by the Akhil Bharatiya Digambar Jain Mahasamiti. It carries a cash prize of Rs. 2.51 lakh, a memento and a citation.
  • The fighter pilot Abhinandan Varthaman will receive the award on April 17 on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti.

India first jewellery park to come up at Navi Mumbai

  • India’s first jewellery park will be inaugurated in Navi Mumbai on March 05, 2019. The Maharashtra government has allotted 21 acres to the park.
  •  This park will dedicate half its space to small players in the value chain. Customs, banks and other such agencies required for business will be available here. 

Gwalior to Get First Ever ‘Centre for Disability Sports’ for Divyangjan

  • The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal to establish a ‘Centre for Disability Sports’ at Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh.
  • It will be the first ever specialized sports training facilities for Divyangjan in India.
  • The Centre will be registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
  • The estimated cost for the construction of the centre is Rs 170.99 crore spread over a period of 5 years.

Tripura government launches Notun Disha initiative to provide training to teachers

  • Tripura government has announced to distribute laptops to 800 school teachers under the Notun Disha (new direction)  initiative.
  • The Notun Disha is a one-month project to provide training to teachers.
  • ‘Notun Disha’ is aimed at making the students efficient and capable in all subjects from the 3rd to 8th standard

CISF creates Guinness world record for single line bicycle parade

  • A troop of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) created a Guinness world record in ‘single line bicycle parade.
  • The record was created at the Yamuna Expressway in Noida when CISF personnel rode a total of 1,327 bicycles “non-stop with a uniform distance between bicycles in a single line. The bicycle parade covered 3.2 km distance non-stop. 

‘Mainamati Maitree Exercise 2019’ held between Border force of India and Bangladesh

  • Border Security Force (BSF) of India and Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) have concluded a three-day ‘Mainamati Maitree Exercise 2019’.
  • It was a part of ‘Confidence Building Measures’ between the two border guards. The main objective of this exercise was to plan and conduct anti-smuggling and anti-criminal activity related operations

Exercise Red Flag 19 begins in US

  • Military exercise Red Flag is being held in the US from 03 March 2019 to 16 March 2019.
  • It is a two-week advanced aerial combat training exercise held several times a year by the United States Air Force.
  • The purpose is to offer realistic air-combat training for military pilots and other flight crew members from the U.S., NATO, and other allied countries.

India’s First Policy to Protect Bank Locker launched by IFFCO Tokio

  • IFFCO Tokio General Insurance Company has launched a Bank Locker Protector Policy. This is first such policy in India to protect Bank Lockers.
  • The policy offers seven options of sum insured ranging from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 40 lakh and above.
  • IFFCO Tokio’s bank locker protector policy will provide cover against various risks such as fire, burglary, earthquake, infidelity by bank staff, hold up, or any act of terrorism.

Bharti AXA General wins ‘Assocham Non-Life Insurer of The Year Award’

  • Bharti AXA General Insurance has been conferred with the ‘Non-Life Insurer of The Year Award 2019 by the Assocham.
  • The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) honored Bharti AXA General Insurance with this recognition for its excellence and contribution to the non-life insurance sector.

Wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Pooja Dhanda Claims Gold at 2019 Dan Kolov-Nikol Petrov tournament

  • Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia won a gold medal in 65 kilogram freestyle event at the Dan Kolov-Nikola Petrov tournament held in Ruse, Bulgaria. 
  • Another gold for India came from Pooja Dhanda, who claimed gold in women’s 59 kg

Former Deputy Prime Minister of Nepal, Bharat Mohan Adhikari, Passes Away

  • The Senior leader of ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and former Deputy Prime Minister of Nepal, Bharat Mohan Adhikari, passed away. He was 83.

National Security Day: March 4

  • 48th National Security Day (Rashtriya Suraksha Diwas) – March 4, 2019
  • Purpose – to praise the work of security forces who sacrifice their lives for maintaining the stability of the country
  • The first National Security Day (NSD) was held in 1972.
