Jaipur Railway Station Tops Indian Railways’ Station Cleanliness Survey 2019

  • The Ministry of Railway led by Piyush Goyal has released the 2019 Station Cleanliness Survey that ranks the cleanest railway stations in India. The survey was conducted by the third-party entity Quality Council of India.
  • Jaipur railway station of Rajasthan has topped the “Swachh Rail, Swachh Bharat” 2019 survey followed by Jodhpur and Durgapura among 720 railway stations surveyed.
  • Among the 109 suburban station, Maharashtra’s Andheri station has topped the list.
  • North Western Railway zone has has topped in cleanest railway zone category.

Govt launches PRAKASH portal for improving coal supply coordination to power plants

  • Government has launched PRAKASH Portal for better coordination among the ministries of power, coal and Indian Railways for coal supply to power plants.
  • PRAKASH stands for ”Power Rail Koyla Availability through Supply Harmony”.
  • The ministries of power and coal, the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and Power System Operation Corporation Ltd can review overall availability of coal at thermal power plants in different regions.

Chhattisgarh Government Launches 5 New Schemes On Gandhi Jayanti

  • Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel led Chhattisgarh government launched five new schemes on October 2, 2019 to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The schemes launched are:

  1. Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyaan (Chief Minister Nutrition Scheme),
  2. Mukhyamantri Haat Bazaar Clinic Yojana (Chief Minister Market Clinic Scheme),
  3. Mukhyamantri Shahariya slum Swasthya Yojana (Chief Minister Urban Slum Health Scheme),
  4. Universal PDS scheme
  5. Mukhyamantri ward Karyalaya (Chief Minister Ward Offices)

Air India Launches ‘Namaskar Sewa’ for Passengers at Delhi Airport

  • National carrier Air India (AI) has launched a pilot project service named ‘Namaskar Sewa’ for airline passengers at Delhi airport.
  • Under ‘Namaskar Sewa’, Air India staff will take care of passengers from Delhi airport entry gate until the passengers board in the aircraft.
  • The services provided will include filling the form, issuing a boarding pass and other necessary help required to the passengers.
  • However, the carrier will charge passengers for this service.
    • For domestic passengers the fixed nominal charge to avail the service is Rs 750.
    • For International passengers, the charge is Rs 1,500.

Indo-Kazakhstan Joint Military Exercise KAZIND 2019 Begins in Pithoragarh

  • The annual military exercise KAZIND 2019 between India and Kazakhstan army commenced on 3 October 2019 at Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand.
  • The 4th edition of the exercise will culminate on 15 October 2019.
  • The exercise will impart joint training of troops in Counter Insurgency/ Counter Terrorism operations in both Jungle and Mountainous terrain.

Kapil Dev Resigns as Chief of BCCI Cricket Advisory Committee

  • Former India captain Kapil Dev has resigned as the head of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Cricket Advisory Committee.
  • Kapil Dev was appointed the chief of the 3-member ad-hoc committee in July 2019. Shanta Rangaswamy and Anshuman Gaekwad were the other member of the committee.
  • His resignation comes after Shanta Rangaswamy stepped down in September 2019 when they were sent the notice of Conflict of Interest by BCCI’s ethics officer DK Jain in September 2019.
  • Cricket Advisory Committee is tasked with the role of picking the head coaches of India women’s and men’s cricket teams.

Sachin Tendulkar Receives ‘Most Effective Swachhata Ambassador’ Award

  • Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has been felicitated with the most effective Swachchta Ambassador award on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2, 2019.
  • He was presented the award by President Ram Nath Kovind at India Today Group’s fifth edition of the Safaigiri Awards ceremony 2019 in New Delhi.
  • Sachin was given the award for utilizing his popularity and fame to ensure India achieves its goal of a Swachh Bharat.
  • He has been promoting cleanliness drives in India for almost 10 years.

Ben Stokes Bags PCA Players’ Player of the Year 2019

  • England all-rounder Ben Stokes has bagged the Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) Players’ Player of the Year award 2019.
  • PCA Player of the Year is an annual cricket award presented to the player who is adjudged to have been the best of the year in English county cricket.
  • Other award winners include:
    • Sophie Ecclestone – Women’s Player of the Summer
    • Tom Banton – Young Player of the Year
    • Chris Woakes – ODI Player of the Year
    • Stuart Broad – Test Player of the Year
