  • Prayagraj Kumbh Mela 2019 has been placed in the Guinness World Records in three sectors. It includes
    • largest traffic and crowd management plan,
    • the biggest painting exercise of public sites under paint my city scheme and 
    • biggest sanitation and waste disposal mechanism.

Overview of PM Modi’s Visit to Amethi in Uttar Pradesh

  • The Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi visited Amethi in Uttar Pradesh on 3rd March 2019.
  • He inaugurated and laid foundation stones of 17 developments projects costing around Rs 538 crore.
  • Indo-Russian Rifles Pvt Ltd – PM dedicated the Indo-Russia Rifles Pvt Limited to the nation.
  • It is a Joint Venture between India’s Ordnance factory and Russian firm for the production of world famous Kalashnikov Assault Rifle of the newest 200 series (AK 203). 
  • He also laid the foundation stone of Ordnance Factory at Korwa.
  • Besides this other development projects were related to power generation, education, health and manufacturing sectors for direct benefit to Amethi region as well as Uttar Pradesh.

India’s first oil museum to come up in Guwahati

  • India’s first oil museum will come up in Guwahati, Assam. It will be named KB Malaviya National Oil Museum. KB Malaviya is called the father of India’s hydrocardon industry.
  • Assam was the first state where oil was discovered and produced for the first time in the country.
  • All major oil and gas companies ONGC, OIL, HPCL, BPCL, EIL will jointly work for the museum. 

First-of-its-Kind ‘National Institute of Mental Health Rehabilitation’ to be set up at Sehore in Madhya Pradesh

  • The foundation stone for India’s first ever ‘National Institute of Mental Health Rehabilitation’ was laid at Sherpur Village in Sehore district of Madhya Pradesh on 03 March 2019.
  • An outlay of Rs 180 crore has been approved by the Central Government for this project for an initial period of three years.

Mukhyamantri Parivar Samman Nidhi Yojana launched by Haryana Government for farmers

  • Haryana Government has launched Mukhyamantri Parivar Samman Nidhi Yojana for the farmers in the state. The scheme is similar to the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme of Central Government.
  • The Mukhyamantri Parivar Samman Nidhi Yojana will cover :
    • farmers of the state cultivating up to five acres of land and 
    • workers in the unorganised sector with income less than Rs. 15,000 per month.
  • Under the scheme, each beneficiary family would be eligible for a financial assistance of Rs.6,000 every year. In Three installments of Rs 2,000 each.

Karnataka launches ‘Jalamrutha’ scheme for water conservation

  • Karnataka chief minister, H D Kumaraswamy, has initiated the ‘Jalamrutha’ initiative which is a water conservation scheme.
  • The initiative aims to create awareness among the people of the state about the invaluable nature of water and the need to conserve it at any cost.
  • The state of Karnataka has announced the year 2019 as ‘Jalavarsha (year of water)’.

‘Samvedna’ campaign launched by Chhattisgarh Police 

  • Chhattisgarh Police have launched ‘Samvedna’ campaign to curb crimes against women and children by keeping a strict watch on crimes against them and taking prompt corrective action.
  • Nodal officers in each district of the state will be appointed along with the formation of a cell for dealing with cases related to women and children. Each cell will have at least one woman police officer.

Cricket included in Asian Games 2022

  • The game of cricket has again been included in the Asian Games for the 2022 edition. The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) took the decision. Asian Games 2022 will be held in Hangzhou, China.
  • Cricket was the part of the 2010 and 2014 Asian Games. However, India considered the superpower of cricket was not part of this event due to its busy schedule. So Cricket was dropped from Asian Games in 2018. T20 was played in 2010 and 2014.

‘DotBook’, India’s first Braille laptop for visually-impaired created by IIT Delhi

  • Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi have created a laptop for visually-impaired named ‘DotBook’. It is said to be India’s first laptop for visually impaired candidates.
  • Instead of a screen, the laptop displays embossed text in Braille through a touchpad. Users get to feel everything a website has by touching the pad.

PSBloansin59minutes.com becomes largest fintech lending platform; sanctions Rs 35K cr

  • Web portal PSBloansin59minutes.com has emerged as India’s largest online lending platform. This was reported by Credit Suisse. Loan worth more than Rs 35,000 crore has been sanctioned by the web portal till February 27, 2019.
  • The portal was launched in November 2018 to provide credit of up to Rs 1 crore to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in just 59 minutes.

Indian Bank receives Best Bank Award from TN Govt

  • Indian Bank has won the Best Bank Award from the Tamil Nadu government for meeting the needs of women’s self-help groups (SHGs).
  • Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, K Palaniswami presented the award to the executive director Indian Bank M K Bhattacharya.

Iran merges military affiliated banks with Bank Sepah

  • Central Bank of Iran (Bank Markazi) has merged four banks and a credit union to reform the country’s banking system and financial markets. These banks and credit union are:
    • Ansar, Mehr-e Eghtesad
    • Hekmat-e Iranian Bank and
    • the Kosar Credit Institute
    • Merged with Bank Sepah (Iran’s first bank)

Macky Sall Re-Elected as President of Senegal

  • The incumbent president of Senegal, Macky Sall, has been re-elected to the post after gaining 58.27 percent of the total vote casted.
  • He will now serve another term as the President of the West African country for a period of 5 years.

Novel “The Fate Of Butterflies” authored by Nayantara Sahgal launched

  • Veteran author Nayantara Sahgal has unveiled her new novel “The Fate Of Butterflies”.

World Wildlife Day: March 3

  • World Wildlife Day is observed on March 3 every year to celebrate and raise awareness about the world’s wild fauna and flora
  • The day was proposed by Thailand and recognised in 2013 by United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
