PM Modi Dedicates 5 Young Scientists Laboratories of DRDO to the Nation

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi dedicated to the nation 5 Young Scientists Laboratories of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on 02 January 2020 from Bengaluru.
  • The 5 DRDO Young Scientist Laboratories (DYSLs) are located in five cities namely Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad.
  • Each lab will work on a key advanced technology of importance to the development of futuristic defence systems such as, Artificial intelligence, Quantum technologies, Cognitive technologies, Asymmetric technologies and Smart materials.

World’s Second Tallest Statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Unveiled in Ahmedabad

  • On 3rd January 2020, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani unveiled the second tallest statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in the world at Ahmedabad.
  • The 50 feet tall bronze statue of Sardar Patel weighs 70 thousand kilograms and is located at the Sardardham campus near Vaishnodevi circle in Ahmedabad.
  • This is the second highest statue of India’s first home home minister after the Statue of Unity ( (597 ft) 182 metres), situated at Kevadiya in Narmada district of Central Gujarat.
  • The Statue has also been designed by Padma Bhusan Ram V. Sutar, the same sculptor who had designed the Statue of Unity.

‘Cyber Safe Women’ initiative Launched by Maharashtra Government

  • The state government of Maharashtra Government has launched a ‘Cyber Safe Women’ initiative to ensure that women and children do not fall prey to these cyber criminal activities.
  • Under the initiative, various awareness camps will be held across all the districts of the state regarding cyber safety to help in educating women about how the web is used by anti-social elements and child predators to commit various types of crimes.
  • The initiative has been launched on 03 January 2020 to mark the 189th birthday of Savitribai Phule, a 19th century social reformer who has many accomplishments to her credit, mostly towards education of women in India.

Odisha Government Launches e-Gazette portal for Gazette notifications

  • The State Government of Odisha has launched an e-Gazette portal, a first-of-its-kind initiative in India, to make available the Gazette notifications from all state departments under one platform.
  • The system will expedite the process of Gazette publication, make it error-free and paperless and also save transportation of trucks of papers from Government Press to departments, districts and other quarters.
  • The e-Gazette portal will enable hassle-free access to all indenting, publishing, user departments, institutions and public anytime anywhere.

Indian Railways Launches Integrated Helpline Number 139

  • The Indian Railways has integrated all its helpline numbers into a single number, 139, to help its passengers in quick grievance redressal and enquiries during their train journeys.
  • The new helpline number 139 will take over all the existing helpline numbers (except 182). thereby making it easy for the passengers to remember the number and connect with Railways for all their needs during travel.
  • 139 helpline will be available in twelve languages.
  • It will be based on Interactive Voice Response System, that means, users need not require smart phone to avail the service, as it will work on any mobile phone.

14 Scientists Awarded Swarna Jayanti Fellowships for 2018-19

  • The Union Ministry of Science and Technology have awarded Swarna Jayanti Fellowships to 14 scientists for the year 2018-19, to pursue basic research in frontier areas of science and technology.
  • The awardees are supported by Department of Science & Technology, and include a fellowship of Rs 25,000/- per month as well as a research grant of Rs 5 lakh for 5 years in addition to their salary.
  • The Swarna Jayanti Fellowships scheme was instituted by Government of India to commemorate India’s 50th year of independence.
  • Under this scheme, a selected number of young scientists, with proven track record, are provided special assistance and support to enable them to pursue basic research in frontier areas of science and technology.

Cristiano Ronaldo Wins Best Men’s Player of the Year at Dubai Globe Soccer Awards 2019

  • Cristiano Ronaldo won the Best Men’s Player of the Year award at the Dubai Globe Soccer Awards held on December 29 in Dubai.
  • Ronaldo has won the award six times out of its nine years of its existence.
  • England international Lucy Bronze was crowned Best Women’s Player of the Year.
  • The 2019 Awards were presented in 16 different categories
  • The Globe Soccer Awards are the annual awards given for excellence in football, organised by the EFAA (European Association of Player’s Agents) and the ECA (European Club Association).
