Indian, US Army to hold Yudh Abhyas 2018 in Uttarakhand

  • The armies of India and US will hold a joint exercise ‘Yudh Abhyas 2018’ in Chaubatia, Uttarakhand for 12 days starting from September 16.
  • The exercise aims to enhance inter-operability between the two forces, the exercise will also focus on enhancing counter-terror cooperation.

India-Czech Republic Signs 5 Pacts in Various Fields

  • As a part of President Ram Nath Kovind’s last leg of 3-nation Europe tour to Czech Republic, India and Czech signed 5 agreements in various fields.
  • These agreements are:
    • Cooperation between Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, India, and the Czech Academy of Sciences,
    • A visa waiver agreement for diplomatic passport holders,
    • A work plan to support Indo-Czech projects in diverse areas of science and technology, with the Department of Science and Technology taking the lead from the Indian side;
    • Cooperation in laser technology between ELI Beamlines and the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research,
    • Cooperation between the Haryana Agricultural University and the Czech University of Life Sciences.
  • The agreement was signed between President Kovind and Prime Minister Andrej Babis of Czech Republic.

Axis Bank appoints Amitabh Chaudhry as MD & CEO, to take charge from Jan 1

  • Amitabh Chaudhry will take charge as the MD and CEO of Axis Bank from January 01, 2019. He will replace Shikha Sharma who steps down on December 31, 2018.
  • Chaudhry, the MD & CEO of HDFC Standard Life Insurance Company at present has been appointed for a period of 3 years.

Bengaluru to host Aero India 2019

  • The Ministry of Defence has decided to hold the Aero India 2019 in Bengaluru from 20-24 February 2019. 
  • This five-day event will combine a major trade exhibition for the aerospace and defence industries with public air shows.
  • Besides global leaders and big investors in aerospace industry, the show will also see participation by think-tanks from across the world.

Ayushman Bharat Call Centre Inaugurated in Bengaluru

  • Ayushman Bharat call centre was formally inaugurated in Bengaluru by CEO  of Ayushman Bharat Dr. Indu Bhushan on September 7, 2018. This national call centre is operational since  August 25.
  • The call centre functioning 24×7 in collaboration with Medi assistant is sharing information in English and Hindi initially and 9 more regional languages to be added later.
  • All information pertaining to Ayushman Bharat is  provided in the call centre. One more such call centre is functioning in Hyderabad. In later stages these call centres will be functional in 30 states. 

World Summit on Accreditation Begins in New Delhi

  • The 4th edition of the World Summit on Accreditation began in New Delhi this on September 8, 2018. Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar inaugurated the 3 day Summit.
  • The theme this year is – Challenges and Opportunities in Outcome-Based Accreditation. 
  • The Summit is a biennial event organized by the National Board of Accreditation which provides platform to eminent speakers from industry, corporate and academia from India and
    overseas to facilitate to share their knowledge and information on subjects relating to best practices in accreditation and means to improve quality of education through these practices.

Indonesia ready to host 2018 Asian Para Games

  • After the conclusion of the 2018 Asian Games, Indonesia is set to hold the 2018 Asian Paralympic Games, from October 6-13 in Jakarta.
  • This will be the 3rd Asian Para Games. The official mascot of the 2018 Asian Para Games is a Bondol eagle named Momo. 
  • The theme for the Games will be “Energy of Asia.”

Assam Ropes in Hima Das as Sports Ambassador of the State

  • Assam government has made Asian Games medalist Hima Das as the first ever Sports Ambassador of the state. He also handed over a cheque of 1.6 crore rupees to Hima.
  • Hima won 3 medals in recently concluded Asian Games. 

Ankur Mittal Wins Double Trap Gold in World Championship

  • Ankur Mittal claimed the men’s double trap gold medal in the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championship in Changwon, South Korea.
  • The 26-year-old shot 140 out of 150 to go into a shoot-off for gold with China’s Yiyang Yang and Slovakia’s Hubert Andrzej.
  • Mittal overcame the Chinese 4-3 to emerge the winner while Slovakian missed his second shoot-off clay target to settle for bronze.

September 8: International Literacy Day

  • International Literacy Day is observed annually on September 8 across the world.. 
  • The day was declared by UNESCO on 26 October 1966 at 14th session of UNESCO’s General conference. It was celebrated for the first time in 1967.
  • The theme of 52nd International Literacy Day is ‘Literacy and skills development’.
  • The day aims to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies.
