GOI signs loan agreement with ADB worth $375 Million and $346 Million for Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka resp.

  • Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a $375 million loan agreement to contribute to double farming incomes in Madhya Pradesh by expanding irrigation networks and system efficiency.
  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of lndia today signed a $346 million loan to finance improvement of over 400 kilometers of state highways that will enhance connectivity and access to economic centers across 12 districts in Karnataka.

Innovation Cell and ARIIA by MHRD to foster culture of innovation in Higher Education Institutions

  • Union Minister for HRD, Shri Prakash Javadekar launched the MHRD Innovation Cell (MIC) and Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) in New Delhi.
  • Innovation cell is MHRD’s initiative and has been established at AICTE premises with a purpose to systematically foster the culture of Innovation in all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the country.
  • Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) has been launched for real assessment of the outcome. ARIIA considers all major indicators which are commonly used globally to rank most innovative education institutions/ universities in the world. Named after former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, ARIIA will rank educational institutions for innovation output based on all major indicators and parameters used globally.

Environment Minister Releases India’s National Redd+ Strategy

  • Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Dr. Harsh Vardhan released the ‘National REDD+ Strategy India’.
  • REDD+ means “Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation”, conservation of forest carbon stocks, sustainable management of forests, and enhancement of forest carbon stocks in developing countries.
  • This is in compliance to India’s commitment to Paris Agreement on Climate Change. REDD+ strategy will help the country to fulfill its NDC commitments and will also contribute to the livelihood of the forest dependent population. 
  • Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) is a term used under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) for reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.

Conference on Motivating and Attracting Youth in Agriculture (MAYA) Organised in New Delhi

  • The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has organised two day conference on Motivating and Attracting Youth in Agriculture (MAYA) at NASC, New Delhi from 30-31 August, 2018.
  • The conference aims at developing certain youth entrepreneurs in rural areas to meet the challenge of providing sustainable livelihoods for a rapidly growing population and to motivate and attract other youths in agriculture.
  • Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) & Director General (ICAR), urged to create a “Mission for Youth in Agriculture” and “Regional Platform for Youth in Agriculture” with neighboring countries as partners to attract youth in agriculture by providing them lucrative alternatives.

6TH RCEP Ministerial Meeting begins in Singapore

  • The 6th Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Ministerial Meeting began in Singapore.
  • Union Minister of Commerce& Industry and Civil Aviation, Suresh Prabhu,is leading the Indian delegation for the 6th RCEP Trade Ministers’ Meeting.
  • The Minister will participate in the meetingconsisting of 10 ASEAN countries and six ASEAN FTA partners namely, India, China, Japan, Korea, Australia and New Zealand.

INS Sahyadri Reaches Australia to Participate in Exercise KAKADU 2018

  • The Indian Naval Ship INS Sahyadri has entered the Port of Darwin, Australia on 29 August 2018 to participate in Exercise KAKADU 2018.
  • The 14th edition of the exercise is scheduled to take place from 29 August – 15 September 2018. It would see participation from 23 warships, one submarine, 45 aircraft, 250 marines and approx 52 foreign staff from over 25 different countries.
  • Exercise KAKADU is the premier multilateral regional maritime engagement exercise started in 1993 ans is hosted by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and supported by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). It derives its name from Kakadu National Park.

GDP growth for 2018-19 is expected to increase to 7.4 per cent : RBI

  • The RBI expects the growth rate to accelerate to 7.4 percent in 2018-19. 
  • Keeping in view the evolving economic conditions, the real GDP growth for 2018-19 is expected to increase to 7.4 per cent from 6.7 per cent in the previous year with risks evenly balanced
