India Soon to Launch ‘One-Nation-One-Card’ Policy for Transport: NITI Aayog

  • India will shortly unveil a One Nation-One Card policy for public transport that will entail connectivity between various modes of transport. 
  • As per the data by NITI Aayog Chief Executive Officer Amitabh Kant, the initiative aims to enable the people to travel on the bus, metro and even suburban trains using that single card.
  • The objective of the strategy is to plan for the citizens of India first, rather than focussing on vehicles alone, by providing sustainable mobility and accessibility by switching to a cleaner mode of transportation such as electric, ethanol, methanol, CNG, LNG and hydrogen fuel cells

NITI Aayog organises Movelo Cyclathon to promote clean mobility

  • Hon’ble MoS Kiren Rijiju & Amitabh Kant, CEO NITI Aayog flagged off MOVE Cyclathon, a cycle rally to promote cleaner, accessible modes of transport.
  • It was a part of ongoing ‘Mobility Week’ of NITI Aayog from 31 August to 6 September 2018.

The Reserve Bank introduces Internal Ombudsman Scheme, 2018 for Scheduled Commercial Banks with more than 10 branches

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) asked all scheduled commercial banks with more than 10 branches to appoint an internal ombudsman (IO).
  • All Scheduled Commercial Banks in India having more than ten banking outlets (excluding Regional Rural Banks), are required to appoint IO in their banks.
  • The internal ombudsman scheme was introduced by the RBI to strengthen the internal grievance of banks and to ensure that the complaints of the customers are redressed.
  • The IO shall examine customer complaints which are in the nature of deficiency in service on the part of the bank, that are partly or wholly rejected by the bank
  • The implementation of IO Scheme, 2018 will be monitored by the bank’s internal audit mechanism along with the RBI.

RBI buys 8.46 tonne of gold in FY18; first purchase in 9 yrs

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has bought 8.46 tonne of gold in financial year 2017-18, the first purchase of yellow metal by the apex bank in almost nine years. 
  • RBI held 566.23 tonne of gold as on June 30, 2018, compared with 557.77 tonne as on June 30, 2017, according to RBI’s latest annual report for 2017-18. The increase is on account of addition of 8.46 tonne of gold during the year.
  • Last time the apex bank purchased gold was in November 2009, when it had bought 200 tonne of yellow metal from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

India, Cyprus ink 2 MoUs on Financial Intelligence Sharing and Environment

  • India and Cyprus have signed two MoUs. These includes: ‘Combating Money Laundering’ and Cooperation’ in the field of Environment.
  • The first MoU was signed for between Financial Intelligence Unit, India and Unit for Combating Money Laundering of Cyprus.
  • Indian President Ramnath Kovind, is in Cyprus as a part of his three-nation tour to Europe, including Bulgaria and Czech Republic, spanning over eight days.

Lewis Hamilton wins the Italian Grand Prix

  • British driver Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes won the Formula One Italian Grand Prix, while his main title rival Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari came fourth.

Sakshi Choudhary Clinches Gold Medal at World Youth Boxing in Budapest

  • Former junior world champion boxer Sakshi Choudhary claimed the gold in the 57-kilogram category at the World Youth Boxing in Budapest. She beat Croatia’s  Nikolina Cacic.
  • Manisha and Anamika settled for silver medals in the 64 kg and 51 kg categories. 

Former footballer Arthur Pereira passed away

  • Former Maharashtra football player Arthur Pereira passed away at 70. He was suffering from cancer.
