Asian Games 2018 : Highlights

- Out of 45 participating nations 37 nations won medals.
- China topped the Medal tally with 289 medals (G-132, S-92, B-65), Japan was second. India remained on 8th spot with total 69 medals (G-15, S-24, B-30)

Mauritius tops India’s FDI charts again in FY18
- Mauritius has topped the list of source of Foreign direct investment (FDI) into India in 2017-18. FDI from Mauritius was USD 13.41 billion.
- Singapore stood on second rank with FDI of USD 9.27 billion.
- Total FDI in 2017-18 in India was USD 37.36 billion.
Brabourne Stadium cricket ground gets world’s largest solar rooftop
- The World’s largest solar rooftop was installed on Braboune stadium, at Cricket Club of India, in Mumbai.
- Tata Power’ has commissioned 865 kW plant, which translates to 11.5 lakh units per year.
Book “Moving On, Moving Forward – A Year in Office” to mark one year in office of VP Venkaiah Naidu
- The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, released the book “Moving On, Moving Forward – A Year in Office” to mark one year in office of Vice President Venkaiah Naidu. He also presented the first copy of the book to the Vice President of India.
- Naidu took office on 11 August 2017 and is the 13th Vice President of India.
Ranjan Gogoi to take charge as new Chief Justice of India on Oct 3
- Seniormost Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjan Gogoi is set to become the next Chief Justice of India (CJI).
- The present Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra has recommended his name for the post to the government.
- Justice Ranjan Gogoi is expected to take oath on October 3.
World Bank approves Rs 929.89 crore for Shimla’s water supply project
- The World Bank has approved in principle a financial assistance of Rs 929.89 crore for a water supply and sewerage project in Shimla.
- There are six sources of drinking water supply to Shimla town with a total water supply capacity of 54 million litres per day (MLD).
Rs 50,000 fine for airlines for dumping waste in air
- The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has directed all airline operators plying within India and those operating to and from India that dumping excreta from a flying airplane will now attract a fine of Rs 50,000 for airlines.
US scraps $300 million in military aid to Pakistan
- The US has said it had made a final decision to cancel $300 million in aid to Pakistan over Islamabad’s perceived failure to take decisive action against terrorists and militants.
- This is in addition to another $500 million in aid that was withdrawn earlier this year
