India to host G-20 Summit in 2022

  • During the closing ceremony of the two-day G-20 summit in Argentina, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India will host the G-20 summit in 2022. 
  • In 2022 India completes 75 years of Independence. In that special year, India looks forward to welcoming the world to the G-20 Summit.
  • Initially, Italy was to host the international forum in 2022, however, it gracefully stepped aside accepting Prime Minister’s proposal for India to be the host in 2022 instead of 2021.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to be India’s Chief Guest at Republic Day 2019

  • South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will be the Chief Guest at the 2019 Republic Day celebrations of India in New Delhi. 
  • The year 2019 will mark India’s 70th Republic Day and 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Maneka Gandhi unveils her upcoming book cover

  • Union Women and Child Development (WCD) Minister Maneka Gandhi unveiled the cover of her upcoming book “There’s a Monster Under My Bed! And Other Terrible Terrors”.
  • It is scheduled to be release in January 2019.  It was released at the 11th edition of Bookaroo Children’s Literature Festival held in New Delhi.

Govt launches online platform for registration of drones

  • Ministry of Civil Aviation has  launched the ‘Digital Sky Platform’ for the registration of drones and their operators.
  • It is a first of its kind that implements ‘no permission, no take-off’ (NPNT) – a novel system of software-based self-enforcement to minimize deviations from the Civil Aviation Regulations (CAR).
  • In August 2018, India had announced the release of its Civil Aviation Regulations (CAR) to enable safe flying of Drones in India. [Remotely Piloted Aerial Systems (RPAS)= Drones]

Tri-Service Exercise Madad 2018 Held off Goa and Karwar coasts

  • A largescale Tri-service Exercise “Madad 2018” involving the assets of the Navy, the Army and the Air Force was conducted at sea off Goa and Karwar from November 17-23, 2018 to fine tune joint war-fighting capabilities and enhancing operational synergy.
  • This exercise is a part of the biennial calendar of tri-service exercises and was coordinated by the Indian Navy’s Western Naval Command in consultation with Head Quarters of the Integrated Defence Services (HQIDS).

Asia Pacific Summit-2018 begins in Kathmandu

  • The Asia Pacific Summit-2018 began in Kathmandu, Nepal on December 1, 2018.
  • The theme of two-day Summit is “Addressing the Critical Challenges of Our Time: Interdependence, Mutual Prosperity, and Universal Values”.
  • The Asia Pacific Summit 2018-Nepal, has been organised by the controversial South Korea-based Universal Peace Federation and supported by the Government of Nepal.

24th meeting of Conference of Parties (COP-24) to be held in Katowice, Poland

  • The 24th meeting of Conference of Parties (COP-24) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will be held at Katowice, Poland from 2nd December 2018 to 14th December 2018. 
  • For the fourth time Poland will chair the Conference of the Parties, and for the third time it will host the event
  • Union Environment Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan will Lead The Indian Delegation (17 members) at COP-24.
  • On the sidelines of COP-24, India will be setting up a Pavilion to create awareness about India’s positive climate actions in various sectors of the economy. The theme of this year’s India Pavilion is ‘One World One Sun One Grid’.

Bank of Maharashtra appoints A S Rajeev as MD, CEO

  • Bank of Maharashtra has announced that A S Rajeev has joined the bank as its Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer.
  • Prior to this, he was Executive Director of Indian Bank from 22 January 2016

Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador Sworn in as President of Mexico

  • Leftist leader Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, has been sworn in as the new and 58th President of Mexico.
  • The 65-year old Obrador, also known as AMLO, won the presidential race in July with over 50 percent of the vote and took charge on December 1, 2018.

Georgia elects Salome Zurabishvili as 1st woman President

  • Georgia has elected the rulin­g Georgian Dream party candidate Salome Zurabishvili as its first woman president.
  • Ms Zurabishvili, 66, was born in Paris and is due to take office on 16 December 2018. 

International Day for the Abolition of Slavery : 02 December

  • The focus of this day is on eradicating contemporary forms of slavery, such as trafficking in persons, sexual exploitation, the worst forms of child labour, forced marriage, and the forced recruitment of children for use in armed conflict.

Litterateur Piyush Guleri passes away in Himachal

  • Renowned litterateur Piyush Guleri has passed away in Himachal Pradesh at 78. 
  • Having done new experiments in Pahadi poetry and ghazals, Guleri got special appreciation in literary circles for his extensive research work on the creations of renowned litterateur Chandradhar Sharma.
