Ministry of Railways launches web portal “Rail Sahyog”

  • The Minister of Railways and Coal, Shri Piyush Goyal launched a web portal www.railsahyog.in. (Rail Sahyog). 
  • The web portal will provide a platform for the Corporates and PSUs to contribute to creation of amenities at/near Railway Stations through Corporate Social Responsibility funds.
  • Based on the principle of first come first serve, the requests will be shortlisted and selected applicants will be intimated to deposit the funds with Railways/nominated agencies like RITES/RAILTEL etc.  The nominated agency will get the work executed thereafter.
  • The activities identified to be funded through CSR are :
    • Construction of toilets
    • Providing free Wi-Fi at stations
    • Provision of Benches at station Platforms
    • Bottle crushing machines
    • Dustbins at all stations

NGT forms 3 committees to monitor disposal of garbage in an eco-friendly manner

  • National Green Tribunal has appointed three committees to monitor disposal of garbage in an eco-friendly manner across the country. The three committee are:
    • Apex monitoring Committee – Head- Justice D K Jain
    • Regional Monitoring Committees – Regional Monitoring Committees shall ensure effective implementation of the Rules, 2016
    • State level committees – Head – Secretary of the Urban Development

NITI Aayog, Intel and TIFR collaborate to set up a Model International Center for Transformative AI (ICTAI)

  • NITI Aayog, Intel and Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, TIFR are collaborating to set up a Model International Center for Transformative Artificial Intelligence, ICTAI in Bengaluru.
  • The Model ICTAI aims to conduct advanced research to incubate AI-led solutions in three important areas – healthcare, agriculture and smart mobility – by bringing together the expertise of Intel and TIFR
  • This initiative is part of NITI Aayog’s ‘National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence’ Discussion Paper that focuses on establishing ICTAI in the country through private sector collaboration.

First-ever BIMSTEC military exercise Milex-2018 begins near Pune

  • Contingents from Armies of five of seven BIMSTEC countries began the week-long military exercise at the Foreign Training Node at Aundh in Pune. The exercise is named Milex2018.
  • The remaining two countries, Thailand and Nepal, have sent teams of observors for the exercise.
  • The focus of the exercise is on counter terrorism operations in semi-urban environment.

“Vostok-2018” largest military exercise of Russia begins

  • Russian troops will take part in country’s largest military, including 300,000 troops and Chinese soldiers. The week-long rehearsal dubbed “Vostok-2018” (East-2018) will begin in eastern Siberia.
  • President Vladimir Putin will be attending the war game after hosting an economic forum in Vladivostok where Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, will be one of the chief guests.

Paperless Boarding At Bengaluru Airport With Face Recognition From 2019

  • The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), Bengaluru has announced to roll out facial recognition facility for the passengers of some select airlines from 2019 in a bid to make the boarding process paperless.
  • The Bengaluru International Airport has inked a pact with the Lisbon-based digital and biometric solutions services provider Vision-Box to implement the technology. 
  • The first phase of the roll out will be completed in the first quarter of 2019, with Jet Airways, Air Asia and SpiceJet passengers as the first users.
  • With the implementation of the biometric technology, Bangalore airport will become the first aerodrome in the country as well as Asia to have an end-to-end solution for paperless air travel using facial recognition process.

Maiden mid-air refueling trial of LCA Tejas Successful

  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully carried out the mid-air refuelling of the home-grown Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas.
  • The LCA Tejas LSP8 was transferred 1900 Kg fuel from IAF IL78 mid-air refuelling tanker.
  • The refuelling happened at an altitude of 20000 feet. The aircraft speed was 270 knots and all the internal tanks and drop tanks were refuelled.
  • With this, India joins the elite group of countries who have developed the Air-to-Air (AAR) system for military class of aircraft.

ICICI Bank ‘GST Business Loan’- OD facility for MSME

  • ICICI Bank announced the facility known as ‘GST Business Loan’. Micro, small and medium enterprises will now be able to get quick overdraft of up to Rs 1 crore for working capital requirements, based on their goods and services tax (GST) returns.
  • The overdraft amount could range between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 1 crore and would be up to 20 per cent of the turnover reported in the GST return.

Samsung opens world’s largest mobile experience centre in Bengaluru

  • Samsung Electronics has inaugurated the world’s largest mobile experience centre (3,000 square metre) in Bengaluru. 
  • The 33,000 sq ft (3000 sq m) Samsung Opera House in Bengaluru will host a number of experiences including – VR, home theatre, smart home, DeX, Bixby and more.

Shweta Bachchan’s debut novel “Paradise Towers” to be launched

  • Shweta Bachchan-Nanda’s debut novel “Paradise Towers” will be launched on the eve of her father’s birthday on October 10. Shweta is the daughter of Amitabh Bachchan.
