India’s share in Asia-Pacific’s GDP rises to 17.3% from 14. 6% in 2000: ADB
- India’s share in the GDP of Asia and Pacific region has increased to 17.3 per cent in 2017 from 14.6 per cent in 2000, as per a ADB report.
- As per the ADB’s report on ‘Key Indicators for Asia and the Pacific 2018’, the Asia and Pacific region accounts for more than two-fifths of the share of global GDP in PPP (Purchasing Power Parity) terms.
ISRO Signs MoU With France for Its Gaganyaan Mission
- India and France have signed an agreement to create an Indo-French working group to work together in space medicines for Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) ambitious manned mission, Gaganyaan.
- The joint working group would collaborate in the area of astronaut health monitoring, space medicine, life support, radiation protection, space debris protection and personal hygiene systems.
INDO-MONGOLIA joint exercise Nomadic Elephant-2018 starts in Ullanbaatar, Mongolia
- Indo-Mongolia joint exercise Nomadic Elephant-2018 started at Mongolian Armed Forces (MAF) Five Hills Training Area, Ullanbaatar, Mongolia.
- Exercise Nomadic Elephant is an annual, bilateral exercise since 2006 which is designed to strengthen the partnership between Indian Army and Mongolian Armed Forces.
Marbat festival celebrated in Nagpur
- People of Maharashtra’s Nagpur city celebrated Marbat festival. The 150-year old festival is celebrated only in Nagpur.During the celebration, people gather to address social problems.
- As per the tradition, the devotees took out a procession carrying effigies that represent evil forces. The clay effigies or ‘Marbats’ of Kali (black) and Pivli (Yellow) were the main attraction of the procession.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Receives Meryl Streep Award for Excellence
- Veteran Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai has been bestowed with the inaugural Meryl Streep Award for Excellence during the first Women in Film and Television (WIFT) India Award held in Washington.
- The award established to honour the best female talent in Bollywood and Hollywood is named after veteran Hollywood actor Meryl Streep.
- WIFT India is part of WIFT International, a network which promotes professional development and achievement for women in the film industry, video, and other screen-based media.
Daniel Zhang to be the chairman of Alibaba after Jack Ma steps down in 2019
- Jack Ma, one of China’s richest men has announced that he would step down as Alibaba’s executive chairman in 2019.
- Daniel Zhang who is currently the CEO at Alibaba will succeed him as the Chairman on September 10, 2019.
- Jack Ma will remain a director on Alibaba’s board and a permanent member of the Alibaba Partnership.

- Girish Radhakrishnan has been appointed as the chairmen-cum-managing director (CMD) of the United India Insurance Company.
- Tajinder Mukherjee has been appointed as the chairmen-cum-managing director (CMD) of the National Insurance Company Limited.
Novak Djokovic Beats Juan Martin Del Potro to Win 2018 US Open
- Novak Djokovic won the 2018 US Open men’s single title to earn his 3rd US Open title and his 14th career Grand Slam title
- The 31-year-old from Serbia beat Juan Martin del Potro (Argentina) 6-3 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 to win the title.
