Computer Password Inventor Fernando Corbato Passes Away at 93
- Fernando “Corby” Corbato, prominent American computer scientist, credited with inventing the computer password, passed away. He was 93.
- The MIT ( Massachusetts Institute of Technology) researcher is credited for devising the concept of password-protected user accounts to secure access to files on a large computer system.
- He is also a pioneer in the development of time-sharing operating systems known as MIT Compatible Time-Sharing System, which let multiple people use a computer at the same time.
