Auckland Adjudged as World’s most liveable city in EIU’s Global Liveability Index 2021

  • New Zealand’s Auckland has been ranked as the most liveable city of the world among 140 global cities in the annual Global Liveability Index 2021, released by the Economist’s Intelligence Unit (EIU).
  • Auckland is followed by Osaka in Japan (2), Adelaide in Australia (3), Wellington in New Zealand (4) and Tokyo in Japan (5) as the most liveable cities.
  • Algiers in Algeria (136), Dhaka in Bangladesh (137), Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea(138), Lagos in Nigeria(139)
    and Damascus in Syria (140) are the least ranked liveable cities of the world.
  • The Global Liveability Index 2021 ranks 140 cities globally to measure the quality of life of the people, based on the challenges presented to an individual’s lifestyle in the past year.
  • Each city is assigned a liveability score across five categories (comprising more than 30 qualitative and quantitative factors). The factors include: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.
